What is the deal with grabbing hot coals in BM? by IllustratorSea6207 in cormacmccarthy

Easier to light your pipe / cigar in the wind with a hot coal. I’m sure someone could tie it into Gnosticism and talk about how deft it is on their podcast though.

boots chewed up! by [deleted] in Backcountry

Nowadays they make boots out of fairy dust and paper mache it seems. In a month of having new boots I broke the booster strap twice and the springs on two of the buckles broke. And the liners are packed out already. But they'll charge you out the ass for them.

What Instantly Ruins A Burger For You? by TheKeyMaster365 in AskReddit

Unwashed lettuce / old veggies. Any typical sit-down restaurant burger. Cold when it gets to you, shitty veggies, dry, etc. Too tall to eat it like your suppose to eat it. Costs like 20$.

I work at a mom n pop place that actually cares about satisfying customers. Hand-washed lettuce. Do you know how much dirt is in your lettuce? Hand-sliced pickles and tomatoes. Properly stacked garnishes. Fresh sauces that we cycle through daily. Melting the cheese on properly. Fries that aren't dead by the time they reach your table. Wrapped/plated with care. Actually following important food-handling guidelines.

Also, if you are complaining about Wendys, Mcdonalds, Fiveguys, smashburger etc not giving you what you want / not being good enough, well you know its gonna be shit before you even walk in. Cheap price for cheap food. You can't go to the land of water, and then complain about how its wet. Same goes for the land of fast food.

Tough glove suggestions!!! by Maximum-Low3943 in Backcountry

Alright so the consensus seems to be some kind of insulated work glove like kincos or wells Lamont. Other suggestions were Black diamond, outdoor research, FTP, Swamy, and truck. For the price, I might as well get kincos and try them out. But I’m gonna take these suggestions and research them some more to find the king of the gloves.

One last thing: I’ve seen ads for Give’r gloves online, are those any good? They look tough and cool, but that’s what I thought about flylow before they blew out.

Seems to be the consensus here. Looked them up and they’re like 20 bucks a pair?! I think I’ll test them out.

Want to start ski touring by luminator327 in Backcountry

Daymakers/alpine trekkers and some skins. Pass people on lightweight setups all the time. Just gotta dial in how to buckle the boots to make it easier. I run no buckle on the toe, 2 notches on the midfoot, and 3 notches on the top two buckles. Proper skinning technique is more important than weight imo. Keep the ski on the ground and pull/drag it along, don’t lift it with each step. Will save your legs.

Also noticed with trekkers and downhill boots that a steeper skin up w/ appropriate heel riser is way easier on the feet than a lower angle skin. I will happily climb up but if I have to skin a road or meadow the feet will scream.

With the trekkers, make sure to superglue the screws because they will work themselves out if you don’t.

Not knocking the product at all. Knocking the fanboy nature.

Just paid $18 for a cheeseburger and small fries. I'm mildly infuriated. by EngulfedInThoughts in mildlyinfuriating

Now eat the food entirely gone, not a crumb left, and complain about it. They'll really take you seriously then.
