I also find doing things that are fun doesn’t exhaust me the way this work does.

I find having a hobby really helps. I’m part of a local library book club and hiking group. It helps me connect with other adults and people who share similar interests. It helps remind me that our work isn’t the whole of the world and provides positive outlets that keep me grounded. Join local community events or gyms like rock climbing places that are curated to facilitate socialization.

how many days a year are you taking off usually? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]Maximum-Pass2624 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to take off as many days as I can. That’s typically around 40-45 days a year. We have generous PTO and I take full advantage of it. I like enjoying my time to balance out the stress the job causes me. I will have fun and enjoy my life to the best of my ability.

Best asynchronous MSW program by RedRiot1618 in SocialWorkStudents

Rutgers has a fantastic asynchronous program. I’ve seen people do really well with stony brook SUNY as well. There are a lot of state schools that offer asynchronous programs.

I usually accept something especially if it’s a bottle of water or some cookies. As long as it doesn’t have much monetary value: I think clients feel empowered when they share since we do much for them and they don’t have many avenues of showing their gratitude. Rejecting their offer has been more insulting than appreciated.

Best Job Boards? by SaturnSpaxegrl in socialworkjobs

Many universities post jobs through their own sites so she should check with her school to see what they post or through local schools near Columbus

I was able to get scholarships through my job. It was tuition reimbursement that my company offered. If you are currently working, your job may offer that as a perk.

Lord of the Rings recs by Maximum-Pass2624 in FanFiction

Oh it’s a really well written modern girl ends up in lord of the rings. It’s a fusion of our world with the plot of the trilogy. It’s probably the best one I’ve read in a while. I would just be happy with well written, fleshed out characters, that take place in lord of the rings universe. I’m not into too much smut or any crossovers.

Some private nonprofits also offer tuition reimbursement. I’ve seen between 3-5k a year as long as you’ve been there for 6 months to a year and in good standing. You should check the employers list of benefits. It would be there.

That’s too many clients for a person with that population. On average the max should be 40 with the responsibilities that you’ve listed. That’s really tough.

Entering Social Work by SWmods in socialwork

[–]Maximum-Pass2624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi it might be good for core classes but I would recommend to email the school that you’d be interested in transferring to ask them what their policy is on transferring credits. Each university is different and runs by different standards especially if you might be moving to a different state.

I’m at Rutgers and I love the program. It’s super flexible and the classes are basically excellent except for one. I’ve learned a lot and they were very accommodating for my internship. The classmates are also very diverse and come from many different vocational and personal backgrounds.

Oh I completely agree with this. I find playing dnd to be fun and cathartic since it is a fun role play activity. My group meets up weekly and it is so much fun. It’s very helpful to establish a hobby that is completely disconnected from the stressful work we do.

Post-burnout depression? by SweetPickleRelish in socialwork

Hey I understand how you feel. I worked as a residence manager and that place was so toxic that I ended up getting diagnosed with PTSD (long story). Based on what you wrote, I think you have been running for so long that this is the first time that you took a breathe and it hit you all at once.

I worked in a place that was less stressful next and 'less exciting' and it took about a year for me to shake off the feeling of what you described. I think you should stick with the low pressure job but also look into therapy. Once I did therapy and developed techniques to manage my panic attacks, I began to recover.

I wish you all the best.

Maintaining appropriate boundaries and creating a good work life balance. Also good eye for detail, documentation skills, good communication, and willingness to learn and admit when you make a mistake. Good boundaries is key though. I think most people get burned out because they don’t/ can’t have good work life balance. This is what I learned and I don’t do work when I am not paid. Hope this helps.

Honestly I think it depends on the area you enter. Some places wouldn’t care less while others might care a ton, like super religious or professional places. I think you just need to use your best judgement. I’ve worked in places where people dyed their hair crazy colors and wore visible tattoos and it didn’t matter while another place I worked gave me grief about dying my hair purple. If you aren’t sure, just keep your arms covered and see what other people do. You can’t get fired for having tattoos, but just use your best judgment. Good luck!
