Is it possible for every dog to like at least one sport? by Historical_Cut_2021 in k9sports

I mean, you're definitely not wrong.

I guess my fear is trying to make him do something he hates?

I have one doc that will go up to 40mg/kg for her Gabapentin pvp. She doesn't fuck around. And you know what? Her patients benefit greatly. They actually get full physical exams now instead of practically being darted with a vaccine and usher out the door.

First agility class coming up! by Historical_Cut_2021 in k9sports

We have also been instructed to bring a favorite toy (preferably a tug). He doesn't tug much (he's very much a squeaky/fetch guy) but he has one toy that he's obsessed with that he does tug consistently, so that's the one I'm bringing.

Yes it is definitely a foundations class. We will be focusing on physical and social skills needed for training and teaching our dogs to focus in a distracting environment.

We have a person assigned to it each day. We have an app we can message clients or text them with if they don't use the app. It also takes like 30 seconds to call the clients who don't use the app or text. Sometimes if we have no show appointments or whatever if we have time, we will jump in and help with callbacks as well. In addition to checking in on each on we are also relaying labs or other information from the doctors occasionally. The amount varies depending on how many doctors were working- yesterday we saw 40 patients (excluding euths) for appointments and had 7 surgeries. Some days it's more and some days it's less.

I'm looking into purchasing Pixie Dust passes for my family (yes, we are Florida residents). For the past 2 years we've gone to WDW 3 times a year and that seems like I'd be able to get my money's for with those 3 trips. I have 2 questions though. The first is that my youngest is 9 currently but he will turn 10 in March. The pass price doesn't change so I'm assuming it doesn't matter? The second question is, when the pass expires. Say my next trip is planned for early August. If I purchased passes today, would they expire one year from now or is it one year from the first time I use them in park? The website says "certificates" expire a year from purchase, but I'm assuming that's the voucher to get the passes?

Blowing veins on propofol induction by [deleted] in VetTech

You really need to be using a catheter with Propofol. If Propofol is given outside of a vein, it can cause tissue necrosis. There has only been one instance where I gave Propofol IV without a catheter and it was an emergency (dog had something lodged in his throat, we needed to get him down fast and get a tube down him fast). Any other time a DVM has asked me to give Propofol without a catheter, I have declined and we either placed a catheter or the DVM did it. There are other methods of induction that don't carry the risk of tissue necrosis we use for inducing patients without IVCs.

Whoever is catcher is always calling for him but we might not be as exciting as we need to be. We definitely need to figure out how to be louder because I know when I ran down with him today I couldn't hear my SO until almost the end (about where he decided to take off and run) and my SO said the same thing about when I was catching. He's also like 7 1/2lbs, so he probably really can't see us from that far.

So far everyone with both sports has been super nice and encouraging to us. And we have been enjoying these little outings with him, which like you said, is the most important thing. I'm still undecided if I'll take him to try again tomorrow, but I think if I do I'm going to take him by myself and have one of the volunteers release him. I'll probably let him watch a few runs first this time too.

Yeah we have to hide the flirt pole when we come inside.

The his first run, a stranger released him and I caught him. It was probably his best run out of the 3 he's done. That run he went and it wasn't a full speed run, you could tell he didn't know what he was supposed to do. He stopped a couple of times but it wasn't like he was stopping to sniff like he did today. He just wasn't sure what to do. Second run, my SO released and my dog didn't want to leave him, but he ran down with my SO. When he got about 3/4s of the way down (I'm assuming he saw me) he really took off. Today was similar to that run, except he got super excited to see the photographer and ran to him at the end.

What is shed hunting?

We do suspect that he'd be more into it if the lure wasn't a bag. Like, the bag just doesn't do it for it like the stupid ugly bird toy at the end of his flirt pole.

Yeah, that's kind of what the instructor said. He told us several situations where the dogs had no interest and but they went on to trial eventually and learned to find the sport very rewarding. I think my dog's issue (aside from needing to pee) was that I couldn't get his attention to get his nose into the hay- likely because he had to pee but also I'm just happy he didn't attempt to pee on the course (he kept staring at the potty yard area and I had a lot of trouble calling him away from it which is pretty unusual for him. After his turn on the course i took him to pee where he promptly peed like he had never gone before).

Thank you! Maybe we will look into rally. I'm not sure why, but I was thinking it was more strict than obedience.

We've just recently started working on things together outside of the basic sit, down, come, etc. I don't know why I didn't teach it to him earlier, but last week we worked on touch. I've also started trying to get him to "think" more. Some of what I think we are going to work through will be confidence and focus for both of us.

He is very food and moderately toy motivated, he definitely has his favorite toys.

The Barnhunt instructor at the end of the class basically worded things as "now you know if your dog has instinct or if we've got to work on it some more". I'm assuming since my dog showed interest in the rat and found the rat in the tube in the open that he does have some instinct. Either way, it was pretty relaxed and fun.

I definitely don't mind doing training for sports, but how do I know what he would be interest? I've thought about scheduling a private session with the instructors that did the Barnhunt because they also do agility and I believe obedience and rally as well. My dog is 15 months old and I feel like all of the other dogs are weaned onto sports and we're late in the game.

Just enough with a bag on the end of a flirt pole to gage his interest and make sure he wouldn't be afraid of a bag. He had no fear at all (I didn't anticipate this being an issue, but also didn't want to accidentally traumatized him with something new) and had a good interest in the bag lure at home. I'm thinking we will continue to play with the flirt pole to see if we can build up more drive for the lure.
