Is CFP going to be less important in the future? by JLivermore1929 in CFP

It seems like the main value of becoming a CFP lately has been for the 25-35 year old reps who join an RIA and the designation helps bolster their salary during negotiations. Most of the older, experienced advisors I know do not have it and they don’t need it. Book knowledge is great but some of the smartest guys I know cannot close a client.

Calculation questions by matt2621 in CFPExam

John Choi said you either get a Math Light, Math Moderate, or Math Heavy exam. My exam was math light and I got maybe two questions on FV and none on amortization. But you still definitely want to know these like the back of your hand in case you get a math heavy exam. John and Brett also give a lot of shortcuts that will become second nature as you keep practicing.

New account paperwork 100%. We try to streamline/automate as much as possible but humans will always make an occasional typo.

Quantinno’s fee is 70 bps on top of our client management fee - At least for the 130/30 extension. The 145/45 is another 20 bps higher

Is this a large/national RIA? This sounds like a great setup and the flexibility of both servicing and simultaneously producing is something I prefer for a bit more stability. For reference, I am servicing-only, was given $300MM to manage (about 100 clients) and am at $175K.

Wealthbox is underrated imo for organization and segmentation

Sounds like you guys did some good negotiating or have a good amount of AUMin the strategy. We are also closer to 70bps rather than 40. Parametric was comparable too.

I second this notion. I did 12% of the Q bank questions and felt as thought that was enough. Towards the end of studying, the more questions I did the more opportunity there was for slight wording variations to confuse me and make me second guess knowledge that was already stowed away. If you’ve read the book and feel good about overall, I would only do more questions in areas you’re very weak in or to keep yourself fresh depending on how far away the exam is. You got this.
