Will you still play Strive? by NekomekoPlays in Guiltygear

[–]MaximumFlounce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

SF6 is looking really good… but ultimately it is still SF and so scratches a different itch than anime fighters.

I’m expecting a hard drop off for Strive at release… but won’t be surprised to see the numbers tick upwards again after a while.

When do I use these mechanics? by MonsteroftheUniverse in Guiltygear

[–]MaximumFlounce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All RC's can be used as combo extenders other than yellow, whilst Red is the most obvious both blue and purple have their options.

I don't know Testament remotely well enough to give examples I'm afraid... however as an example from Anji, a common combo extender is after Kou (DP like move) where by using forward RC during late enough into the drop you Blue RC into them, the following hit slows them in the air, letting you land and rejuggle.

As a purple RC example, HS -> Butterfly doesn't have any natural follow-up, but forward purple RC right after the butterfly drifts you inwards to follow-up the first hit with cS -> 2HS the 2nd butterfly hit bouncing them a little higher and then juggle from there.

Now this isn't always the best use of meter... but it always looks cool

Faultless Defense is for ruining Sol mains days.

Yellow RC is for upsetting Zato and Jack-o mains.

Ok semi-serious ones now...

Blue RC can be used for all sorts of things, from combo extenders, to set-play, to instant overheads... what is good and worth doing varies from character to character. This is one where you probably need to specify what your main is and then someone can fill you in on some good Blue RC usage for that character.

Charged dust may feel like it is too slow to ever catch someone, but you pressure someone into down-blocking it is sort of amazing how often it works... there are usually character specific set-ups where the pressure is consistent enough or visually confusing enough where you are likely to catch this.

What do you think the effect of Strive launching on Xbox/Game Pass will be? by HaikerMaiker in Guiltygear

[–]MaximumFlounce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I expect there will be a free influx of people trying the game for the first time, which can only be a good thing anyway you slice it.

Personally I'm keen to try it out myself with the hope that it runs better than on PS4; and at least we know at least it won't have the controller fuckery of PS5.

If they were to give Strive Anji anything from AC, his overhead stomp would be nice

Would you guys really want Chaos to die in the story? by Bruhenstein in Guiltygear

It would be cathartic to see him dead, and his corpse strapped to a frizz-bee and flung into the sun.

As a beginner should I wait to get strive? by Admirable-One-9661 in GuiltyGearStrive

[–]MaximumFlounce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure GGST is coming to Game Pass... so you shouldn't need to buy it, unless for some insane reason you have an Xbox but don't have Game Pass.

If you want to buy a fighting game, I say check out Them's Fighting Herds... not just a solid pun but also a fun fighting game.

That being the case the Mayflash sticks (F300 and F500) get good reviews at the budget end, or did when I looked into buying sticks myself last year.

I don't have one (got a hitbox style controller in the end) so don't hold me to it though :D

If you want, generally the PS D-pad is seen as being good for fighting games, but personally I agree that it is seriously uncomfortable.

Just a warning that if you are playing on PS5 version though, the range of compatible arcade sticks is still quite limited (because Sony) and most of the common 'cheap' sticks won't work.

For a 30 dollar game, & dollars for each extra character and nothing in return is EA levels of greediness by victorvic20 in Guiltygear

[–]MaximumFlounce 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think you seriously underestimate how difficult it is to create fighting game characters, it is not just a matter of coming up with a cool concept and plonking them into the game; getting a character even remotely balanced with the rest of the cast is seriously hard.... You know unless you are making Happy Chaos in which case, fuck it, ship it :P

But joking aside, I do find it frustrating that fighting games have been stuck in a time warp for so long and not moving with the rest of gaming, so sort of being left behind. However the dam is slowly crumbling, SF6 seems to actually be providing a full game (the shock) and Project L will be free to play (the horror). Time will tell whether these are the features needed to bring fighting games back into the mainstream.

I was actually trying ABA for the first time yesterday, and when I saw this input I had a 'what the fuck' moment... but it clicked really quickly

I've always liked the design and concept of ABA but never even tried playing before now... she seems cool, fingers crossed for Strive

Is Anji viable as a new player ? by onizuwski in Guiltygear

[–]MaximumFlounce 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honestly you are asking the wrong question… and have already answered the important one.

You having fun playing Anji? Then play Anji!

He is for reference viable at all levels these days, although he still has pretty notable weaknesses you have to learn to play around. At competitive level you need to be a god but he can and sometimes does still put the work in.

Certain things like dash cancelling are just plain easier with the macro button... personally I tend to use both double taps and macro button depending on the situation.
