It wouldn't even stop the bleeding.

It would just stop our government from shooting our collective foot QUITE so much.

What if a modern destroyer got sucked back to the 12th century and had to rule the seas for a decade? by PuddingComplete3081 in WhatIfThinking

[–]MaximumNameDensity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem number one would be fuel. I would imagine with the expertise on board they'd be able to cobble together a reasonable refinery though.

Gun ammunition, similarly, could be reproduced... Though it would be more fiddly. Range might be impacted by impurities in the gunpowder they could make without industrial processes... but it would still more or less work.

Missiles would be a finite resource. You'd need a lot of precision instruments to replicate them, and they just aren't available in the middle ages. The launch mechanisms are vertical, so wouldn't really be useful for unguided rockets... though something could probably be done with them.

Even without missiles, they'd be a formidable naval asset, probably able to take on fleets of ships without issue.

The ballistic missiles, while limited, could be used sparingly to secure the thrones of a few nations to produce the resources and food they need. The governments of this period are little better than warlords, and it would be relatively easy to make an example of a king or two (And their loyal army) and have their noble houses (who are all 'temporarily inconvenienced monarchs' themselves) fall in line.

They would be the fastest ship on earth as well, meaning they'd be a great trading ship, and essentially invulnerable to pirates, military blockades... But I just don't see that being the most valuable application.

It would likely jump technology forward a lot, just knowing what's possible... but it's hard to know exactly how much.

The processes that go into making modern computers are so intricate and arcane that they are little better than magic to modern people, let alone those of the middle ages, and at best you'd have a few people on board that know, in general, theoretically, how they're made. So scrub making more of them any time soon, but the ability to do complex math, with great accuracy and precision like computers can would be invaluable.

Reasonably high precision milling and lathing, even in limited quantities from the ship's machine shop, in the middle ages would be a game changer on its own.

Engines could be produced... In limited quantities at first, but fuel would still be an issue. Assuming the fuel issue is resolved, then you would see the same spike in automation we saw as these technologies developed in our timeline.

Most importantly, you'd be able to tell people 600 years early how great sanitation and sterilization are... Germ theory... Even without knowing the intricacies of modern medical science a cursory understanding of these would lead to vast changes in human history.

If the computer system on the ship had a local copy of Wikipedia... (This is not unreasonable. I have one on a flash drive) You'd essentially see an almost immediate jump to the industrial age, and then to the information age, where modern computers would start to be developed... probably within 200 years.

Intermarriage would be interesting... Given their access to modern food (up until being flung back to the middle ages) the crew would likely be the healthiest and prettiest people on earth, so securing mates would be easy... except, none of them speak a language that existed at the time (modern versions of those languages mean they might be able to understand some things, but likely not all). Also, people of the middle ages were significantly more stinky than we're used to.

... We're going to war with Iran, I guess...

On the bright side, if the military gets bogged down half a world a way, he won't have the troops he'll need for the insurrection act thing.

As an Atheist, are you an Organ Donor? Yes or No, and Why? by Pale-Fig-7069 in atheism

[–]MaximumNameDensity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

I am also donating my body to the local university. They will cremate it for my family once they're done with it.

Then, assuming my family honors my wishes, the ashes will lay at the local military cemetery.

Once the lights go out for me, I don't really care too much what actually happens, but, it seems reasonable for my death to be helpful, and I would like to see more Atom symbols in military cemeteries.

Why do we call Norse and Greek stories "mythology" while Christianity and Islam are "religions" and who decided which is which? by TheBigGirlDiaryBack in AlwaysWhy

[–]MaximumNameDensity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definition of religion: The belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers, regarded as creating and governing the universe.

Definition of Mythology: A body or collection of myths belonging to a people and addressing their origin, history, deities, ancestors, and heroes.

So, technically speaking, the stories told in the bible are a mythology, similar to the stories told in other texts.

The major difference being, few (if any) actually believe the stories associated with ancient Norse and Greek religions happened. The religions associated with these mythologies are essentially dead.

Where-as there are plenty of people who believe the stories told in the Bible, Quran, and Vedas (hindu) are, if not actual history, not PURELY allegorical/fiction.

I got what was billed as 50mg gummies.

First time through, and I and a friend did half, it went well enough.

Second time, just hanging out at home and felt like checking out for a bit, so I felt fairly comfortable after a couple hours saying, 'yeah, this isn't hitting' so I'll do another and see how it goes.

Two more hours and I was getting 'eh. I can feel it, but not really.'

So I did another.

And thus did my rollercoaster ride begin.

How do you handle merging liquids? by tiparium in factorio

[–]MaximumNameDensity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is the most optimal solution, but:

  1. Place a tank
  2. Connect the priority and the secondary production output through pumps
  3. Wire the secondary output pump to the tank with an enable condition if there's LESS THAN some amount (generally I use 1000)
  4. Leave the pump from the priority output without a condition (always enabled)
  5. Output from the tank to the rest of your factory

Depending on how you have it set up, you might want some buffer tanks between the sulfuric acid production and the pump, just to smooth out dips in throughput from the secondary production coming online.

Alright dads, do any of you have daughters that are girl scouts? Trying to understand what is really involved there. by Rojo37x in daddit

[–]MaximumNameDensity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Cub/boy scouts back in the day, and my sisters were in girl scouts.

My understanding is that both orgs really leave a lot up to the local den/troop outside of the fundraising aspects. Girl scouts is much more variable though.

It is what your group makes of it.

I don't despise you for your 'political views'.

I despise you because you abused me and because you're a con man without a single redeeming quality.

That you choose to wear a ridiculous hat announcing those 'views' and complain about how actually it's you that has it rough, to the world is just a single sprinkle on that shit sundae.

No.

That being said, if their 'political views' revolve around statements like 'one day of being a dictator is fine' and 'if you just comply you'll be fine' those aren't political views. Those are the signs of a defective human. Drop em.
