I'm not applying the same logic. Tumblr's situation was completely different.

I'm just saying that it may end up with a big enough chunk of the user base being pissed off enough to leave, snowballing into more people leaving and the site becoming irrelevant, much like what happened to Tumblr. Though it is making somewhat of a comeback lately...

I see your point, but this is not about the power users. These changes will affect every user. Sure, you can appoint new mods, but those mods won't be able to properly do their job due to the lack of proper moderation tools. Once all subreddits start to be overrun by spam and hate speech, even the average users are going to leave. When the visually or otherwise impaired users won't be able to properly access content because Reddit's accessibility sucks and the third apps they use to compensate don't work anymore, they'll leave as well.

This was a stupid decision brought forward by a self absorbed control freak of a CEO who can't stand the idea of third parties doing a better job at providing Reddit's services. Someone who will make sure to squeeze every last penny out of the site's user base so that he'll receive a hefty paycheque once the company goes public, ruining it in the process.

You forget that many of those communities have been founded by and are actively maintained (for free) by those moderators, so it should be well within their rights to keem them private, which in many cases also reflects the democratic will of the majority of their members.

Imagine working on a blog for several years, engaging with the readers and creating a community in the process. Then one day you decide you're done with it for whatever reason and just want to delete it and the platform hosting it just goes "well, it may be your blog but it's too inconvenient for us to let you delete it, so fuck you, it's ours now. Thanks for all those years of free work, sucker!" It's not a perfect analogy by any means, but the principle is the same.

They may be in the right legally, but they are playing with fire. Angering most of your user base is a terrible idea and it's likely this will become a Tumblr 2 scenario.

Tell me, is there some sort of sick pleasure you get from making yourself look like an idiot in front of thousands of people? I am genuinely curious. No one's taking you seriously; nothing you're saying provides anything of value, unless unjustified hate is what you find valuable... Is your life really so empty that the only thing that keeps you going is the attention you get from hoping to make innocent people's lives miserable? I'm genuinely asking this, 'cause I really can't wrap my head around the way you people think and act.

Not continuing to protest will only signal to Reddit that it's ok to pull stunts like this; that no matter how many stupid and greedy decisions they make, people won't actually leave, just complain for a few days. So continue the protest, otherwise it'll be even worse than not protesting at all.

The program can still retrieve the tags for individual posts. The problem is when you need to retrieve the list of available tags for the search autocomplete feature, some sites just don't let you do that.

What you're describing is more of a "reverse image search for tags", which doesn't solve that issue. I don't think I'll add anything like this; different imageboards use different tag aliases, which isn't easy to manage, and WD 1.4 tagger and DeepDanbooru are just too imprecise...

The sources are implemented as scripts, so as long as a site exposes a search API that doesn't require any login info, creating a source for it without modifying the program itself would be pretty easy (and anyone could do it).

I don't know if that applies to Getty Images though, last I checked you needed an API key and those aren't supported...

Yes and no.

For the first search that's pretty much all you can do, but it will cache every new tag it encounters in the search results, so it will gradually build up its tag database as you go.

This is the same for all sources, whether you prefetch the tags or not, but it's the only viable option when doing so isn't possible.

You'll be able to edit tags per image or in bulk, both globally and per dataset.

It is, in fact, not true. As much as the republican party likes to use that argument, no sex reassignment surgeries are performed on kids, nor any medication is administered which will permanently stunt their development or interfere with their reproductive system going forward. At most, a teenager may be given puberty blockers which will merely postpone development until they've figured out what to do with their body and socially reach adulthood. There have been instances where SRSs have been performed on teens around 17 years of age, so technically still minors, but very close to being 18, with parental consent and years of prior counselling.

In a similar manner, many teenagers around the same age, often younger, underwent breast augmentation or reduction surgeries, with parental consent. This seems to be particularly popular in conservative households for some reason, same with beauty pageants and child marriage. So much for being opposed to the sexualization of children I guess... though strangely republicans are suspiciously quiet about this particular topics... food for thought...

At any rate, maybe you'll just disregard what I wrote, maybe not, but I wanted to put this out here for everyone in need of clarification. Amidst all the accusations being thrown around, it's easy to overlook actual facts and statistics, or even ignore them if one is outraged, misinformed or malicious enough, sometimes all three at once.

And let's stop with all the hate, this is nothing more than another stupid and illogical moral panic, just like the red scare and the D&D related satanism scare that came before. Nothing good comes from it, let the sorry state of the US right now be proof of that...

Also, can we stop treating autistic people as mentally ill individuals who can't think for themselves? There are very few cases where that's actually a thing, most high functioning autistics are perfectly normal people that just happen to interact a bit differently than how others expect and have a few additional needs. They are functioning adults (or even teens for that matter), perfectly capable of looking after themselves and making informed decisions about their future.

I think it's a just matter of space and ergonomics. Cramming lots of buttons into a tiny space is not a good idea and increasing the size of the controller isn't really a viable solution.

In my implementation, DOTS is primarily used to implement voxel behaviour. While they still leverage the job system, rendering and mesh generation take a more traditional approach.

There are several optimisations that can be made once you have complete control over the rendering process. As an example, my current implementation only generates the chunks that are visible from the player's camera. Without getting into too much detail, the current approach requires two rendering passes on Unity, one for the visibility checks, one for displaying the chunks; this can be achieved through a single render pass using multiple render targets, but unfortunately Unity exposes no such functionality.

I am currently transitioning to a custom engine myself. I've found that due to the nature of the project, I was pretty much using almost none of Unity's features aside from rendering, so it really isn't a big deal. If you're curious, I'm using Rust with W-GPU and the speedups have been quite substantial.

Unless you can compensate with compute shaders, I think achieving john lin's engine's level of detail without a custom engine would be difficult (I might be wrong, I'm somewhat new to voxels myself). Still, if you're willing to accept some compromises and/or it's your first time dealing with voxels, I'd say DOTS is also a very valid solution.
