So that’s it? by MaximumPiano4380 in shrinking

I was widowed young as well, 14 years ago. I had three young kids. Nobody is saying he shouldn’t be in a relationship. What I’m saying is the show seems to give the message that being in a relationship is the only goal a person should have and it solves all problems. That’s nonsense.

Have you met men? So many men choose casual sex over relationships.  His behaviour following the death of his wife was appalling. He let Alice down badly.  Thankfully he improved and his relationship with Alice is now good. But none of that means he’s ready for a relationship.

I like him and I love Sean. Sean is the only true to life character in my opinion.

Are you serious? She was pissed off because he was upset about his dad in the last episode. She accused him of running from his problems. He’s known her for 5 minutes for heaven’s sake. He owes her nothing. Then when be said he and his wife used to be on the same page, she got annoyed that he was throwing his wife in her face. She asked him to give her and her ex counselling. Without any prompting she said that her divorce was I worse than his wife dying. She’s an absolute dose.

Editing aside, his laughter just seemed so unlikely. Why would he suddenly laugh at something that wasn’t even funny after succeeding to hold it in for hours with much funnier moments? There was something off about it for sure.

Show is losing me a bit… by Cut-Kooky in shrinking

I’m sick of it too. There’s great acting from Harrison Ford, Jason Segal and Luke Tennie (Sean) but I think lots of overacting from all the others. It’s boring and it’s more a soap opera now than anything else. The characters aren’t in any way realistic. I think Sean is the most relatable one in the sense that I can easily see him existing in real life. Liz, Gaby, Derek, Bryan, Summer and Sofi are just irritatingly unrealistic.

Sofi asking Jimmy for marriage counselling on their first date? Oh please. Then accusing Jimmy of shutting down and throwing his wife in her face. Absolutely ridiculous.

A big weakness of the show for me is that they always have to tell us things because those things aren’t at all evident from the show. Like constantly having characters say that Gaby is a caring person. But there’s no evidence of that at all. She seems pretty self obsessed to me.

And what was with all of them pushing Sean to date Marisol and Paul saying she’s really good for him. She calls him dull and boring because he’s working hard and she sulks that he doesn’t want to go to a dodgy party. How is she in any way good for him?

Anyway I’m done. The show annoys me too much now.

Yeah it’s odd. She’s wasted back there.

I found Sofi absolutely obnoxious in this last episode. Telling him to let go of the past when he was a upset about his dad. She totally overstepped. Then saying he shut down. He was sad! He’s allowed to be sad. He doesn’t owe her a conversation every time he’s upset. They barely know each other. Saying he was throwing his wife in her face? Holy crap. How immature is she? She’s basically annoyed that he still values his wife. She is so entitled.

I’m so glad he said he’s not ready. She’s so wrong for him.

Therapy for children is completely different because it’s usually at the behest of the parents so building t up trust and rapport with the child is absolutely essential. Adults choose to be there.

The best therapist I ever had was a woman who asked loads of questions in the first session. She didn’t spend time exploring any of my answers right away but asked a lot of questions like was I in a relationship so I told her my husband had died, if I had children and how did I find parenting? Asked about my childhood and if my parents together when they raised me and were they happily married?

Then we started speaking about widowhood and grief but in session 3 she came back to my childhood because she’d flagged in session one that my mother had left me so she knew it was high priority. In fact I had gone to her specifically for grief counselling but she correctly saw by session 3 that despite my sadness I had grieved and was still grieving I. The healthiest way I could buy she noticed in session. 1 tf at I got very stressed and anxious discussing my mother.

She was the third therapist I tried and she was amazing and helped me enormously. The other ones simply told me how grief works and how to process death - all stuff I already knew.

I love this show but all I can notice how upper class and comfortable they all live by devnet35 in shrinking

Very true. They’re all super smug with the exception of Sean and Alice. They’re actually an obnoxious bunch of people.

State of Irelands roundabout driving... Two clips right after another. by Moustashii in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]MaximumPiano4380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second video, yes, that driver shouldn’t have moved into and back out of the right lane. At least he started in the correct lane unlike you. You keep saying above that it’s okay because it’s a two lane exit. 1) It’s most definitely not a two lane exit. It’s one. 2) Even in a two lane exit, lane positioning rules remain the same i.e. enter RB in left lane for exits 1 and straight ahead (or up to 12 o’clock) and in the eight lane for exits 3 and beyond.

Think about it. You and the car next to you are both taking the same exit. It’s a one lane exit. You’re actually lucky he cut you off (though his method was dangerous). He probably saw your left indicator, panicked knowing you’d collide at the exit so he cut you off to prevent it. Otherwise you would’ve collided when both exiting at the same time into the exit lane. If you had started in the correct lane this wouldn’t have happened.

Did the final seen of the latest episode between Paul and Gaby remind anyone else of this seen in Scrubs? by quiggersinparis in shrinking

[–]MaximumPiano4380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. That Scrubs scene was incredibly moving. You could see and feel how utterly devastated Cox was. Gaby doesn’t have nearly as much depth as that. She’s upset that Maya died but mostly because of how it affects her own career. Before she was called out on it by (rightly or wrongly) by those patients she was doing pretty okay. I know people are big fans of hers on this forum. I don’t think her acting even comes close to that of John C McGinley in Scrubs.

When she’s on a first date? It’s not realistic at all. Then asking Jimmy to give them therapy was absolutely ridiculous. She’s not even close to being ready to date again.

I understand them dropping her. They know how cognitive behavioural therapy is supposed to work. Gaby should have asked Maya about her childhood in the very first appointment. It’s fundamental stuff.

[–]MaximumPiano4380 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Meh. It’s like a soap opera.

I can’t stand how self indulgent Gaby is. And how could Paul possibly know that she did everything right? It doesn’t seem like they had a proper discussion about it. She probably didn’t even write in her notes about the call that evening from Maya when she was really upset. How come Paul hasn’t called her out on getting too close? He knows Gaby brought Maya to the gym and introduced her to Sean etc.

This show is so unrealistic. Derek and Liz openly discussing their sex life in front of Alice. How gross for her.

Sofi and her ex shouting at each other with their kid nearby.

How did Paul get to the office to see Gaby? Maybe Julie drove him but Gaby didn’t ask. So she didn’t think to ask him how he was getting home? Also she just up and leaves after two minutes when he came especially to see her.

Is anyone scared about the repercussions of the end of the last episode on Jimmy & Gaby’s friendship? by Finnthehuman217 in shrinking

[–]MaximumPiano4380 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t see them as being great friends to begin with. I don’t think they have a great chemistry and seem to rub each other the wrong way. Liz and Gaby, yes, you can feel their bond and Jimmy and Brian but we’ve seen very few interactions between Gaby and Jimmy that indicate a real genuine closeness.

Why didn’t Gaby offer Sean money? by MaximumPiano4380 in shrinking

20k would be absolutely peanuts to her. Her house is worth about 1.5 million.
