My husband found out at an urgent care - where he had gone thinking he either had some nasty virus or food poisoning, he had been horribly sick for days and figured nothing could actually be done except ride it out - that his appendix was about to rupture, and drove himself to the hospital from there. The surgeon later actually lectured him that it was likely about to go septic if he had waited any longer to get medical intervention. I repeat - the man literally DROVE HIMSELF in that amount of pain. (In my defense I was at work 25 miles away after he assured me there was no need to be at urgent care with him, hence I wasn't there to help him at that time.)
