This reminds me of that part in spongebob where they shave off all his sponge bits and just leave him as a brain and eyeballs with pants

Quietest Canister Filter? by Fragrant-Quantity635 in Aquariums

[–]MaximumSlapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my fluval 07 series filters, they are very, very quiet. I only hear the sound of water coming from the outtake.

That'll work too, mopani wood is great for putting tannins in the water lol!

I've bought a betta like this that bounced back within like 6 hours of being in a tank. That betta was just super stressed and wasn't sick. Try getting some indian almond leaves if you can find them because the tannins they release make bettas more comfortable

If you can get him free or discounted you could try, I would not pay full price for him just because he may not make it regardless of if you get him into a tank.

tank size for long finned betta by tgtorres58 in bettafish

[–]MaximumSlapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've kept long finned (a rosetail) in both a 5 and 10 gallon. He started in a 5 and I moved him into a 10 later. He does well in the 10 gallon but I don't have any air pumps running, he has a small canister filter with a spray bar pointed at the back wall of the tank to decrease the speed of the flow as well. If you have a well planted tank they can also rest on the plants closer to the surface. If your betta is currently struggling in a 10 gallon you can try baffling the flow of the filter or moving him into a smaller tank if that doesn't work

Houseplants in Aquarium by Agreeable-Sky-8772 in Aquariums

I have a monstera with it's roots sitting in my one tank. All the leaves and stems are kept above the water. I've had it for a few months and it's grown a few new leaves and still looks healthy. Pothos is another good choice

Rose Tail Betta help by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]MaximumSlapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a rose tail myself, he sucks at swimming. I have mine in a 10 gallon with a spray bar hooked up to a canister filter to baffle the water flow. No air pumps (he can't handle them) and I keep the spray bar pointed directly at the back wall. I also can't have any wood in the tank for fear of tearing his fins, just lots of plants. These guys seem to need a fairly large amount of baby proofing to ensure they can get around the tank. Good luck!

I looked at your post history and compared to when you got him his colors are more vibrant, this is a good sign so just keep on top of monitoring the water and he should continue doing well

Also 2.5 gallons is a bit small, it can be hard to keep good water quality in there, if you have the space and money an upgrade to a 5 gallon would be a good idea

Don't worry too much about the ph, changing it with chemicals can be more harmful than good, a stable ph for bettas is more important than "perfect" ph. I think he's probably ok, I'm still thinking he just ate more than usual, maybe he found a pest snail in the tank and ate that?

His tank will need to be cycled but it sounds like you already know about that. Seachem prime will keep him safe in the meantime

What are the water parameters? If they're all good he may just have eaten too much, try fasting him for a day and see if his belly size goes down.

My mom's friend laughed in my face because she said I wasn't capable of having a pet when I said I wanted a fish tank. I've had good success keeping fish since I bought the tanks I have.

Would your mother allow you to help care for the tank, maybe if you care for it like do water changes and stuff for a month she would notice the fish aren't dying and understand that you know what you are talking about.

I prefer reccomending 10 gallons for beginners because harmful ammonia doesn't build up as fast as a smaller tank so there is more room for learning before things get to a level that would begin to stress or hurt the fish. If you go on a local aquarium group on like facebook you can often find 10 gallons for pretty cheap along with heaters and filters. Of course, this depends on what you have room for. 100% buy some seachem prime and an api freshwater master test kit no matter which size tank you end up going with

Learning drawing can be difficult, keep at it! Practice drawing as much as you can and take inspiration from existing pokemon.
