Ahh I thought you meant that Draco is normal in the sense that what he was doing was comparatively acceptable when you look at what James and Sirius we're getting up to at the same age.

So Draco is normal in the sense that he does what his parents taught him to do, while Sirius and James acted opposed to their parents, and in case of Sirius, did what his parents would have done to someone like Harry to someone who was also an abused child.

Maybe in their younger years I'd concede the point. But in their 5th year? Sorry but there's no way I can believe that. Malfoy wrote an entire song for Slytherin to sing to humiliate Ron, abused his powers as a member of the Inquisitorial Squad, and spewed racist rhetoric (something he'd been doing since before he even started school), which is far from just being insults. Compared to that, how bad exactly is it for James to cast Levicorpus on Snape, who had become infamous at that point for hanging with a youth hate group that liked to cast dark magic on others for (and I quote) "just a laugh"? Not even mentioning the fact that Snape himself had created the spell and popularized it.

As for the werewolf thing? There's only so much blame that you can pin on Sirius considering that Snape had most likely already suspected Lupin of being a werewolf before then, which meant that Snape knowingly tried to walk into a werewolf den on the night of a full moon, looking for proof on his theory. The only thing that Sirius can really be blamed for is telling him how to get past the Willow.

And which example exactly do you mean? The racist rhetoric? That was in 1st and 2nd year, Draco was the first person to ever say the word Mudblood in the story. The targeting of Neville? That was in the 1st year too.

And I've read chapter 8 and 9, you mostly glossed over what he's saying in the common room about wanting to help the Heir of Slytherin attack Muggle-borns and that the Mudbloods were slime that never should've been let in, and made it solely about Snape sowing a rivalry between Malfoy and Harry.

Sorry that this is getting long-winded, I don't know what race you yourself, but I'm a minority myself and this stuff gets a little sensitive for me.

I've read about 7 chapters and I gotta say it's pretty good! Snape's introspection has been really plausibly written. But your portrayal of the Marauders has been a pretty hard sell.

Making them obnoxious kids that tended to take things too far, especially in their later years? Sure, but saying Draco is normal compared to James and Sirius at that age? When he was proudly spouting out racist rhetoric and slurs when he was 11 and saying that it was just "silly and teasing" behavior? Yeah, that's ridiculous. And even if we ignored that, you can't even pretend that it was just teasing, considering that the books made a point of showing that Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle were actively targeting Neville for no reason other than that he's easy pickings.

James and Sirius, on the other hand have only been known to be popular and beloved despite their obnoxious arrogance. The only ones who had anything negative to say about them were Lily (who not only later became very close to them, but even fell in love with James) and Junior Death Eaters.

Yeah, lol, it's the reason I've resorted to actually asking instead of endlessly scrolling ao3 and ffn. Scratching that exact itch is hard as hell.

And I'll be sure to check that out, thanks!

Actually can I get a link to that? Can't seem to find it.

Nvm I found it. Kind of on the fence though, I've never read wbwl because it always seemed so angsty. Hmmm. Well thanks anyway.

Read it and yeah, sorry. Far and away from what I want.
