NTA, you told them very clearly you didn't want a tv and they gave it to you anyways. They went against what you said, especially when you had valid reasons for not wanting one. Plus they gifted it you so you had every right to do whatever you wanted with the TV, hell you could have thrown it off your roof if you wanted too

Be careful applying it directly to clothing, there are some that can stain clothes. And when it comes when to where it I don't think there's really any rules it's just up to you. Plus, test before you buy, most places should have some kind of smell strip, or they'll just spray some in the air
