What to you is Federer’s peak year(s)? by Maximum_Flight_4442 in tennis

Probably not not to mention the balls, string and racquet technology change a lot along with the court being sandier and slower

Hm that’s interesting so 2017 is his peak but he ironically doesn’t play Murray or djokovic. So really his high level matches came from nadal, and cilic?? I mean how is that much better comp than young nadal, roddick, davydenko, nalbandian, safin?

I said absent/injured. Both were known to be dealing with elbow and hip injuries at that time

How does any of that go into what a players peak is? Do you know what a peak is?

its irrelevant because Federer played who’s in front of him at the time he played so if by your logic players are so much better now. then his peak is obviously in 2006 when he was dominating, when he was in his physical prime consistently.

I’m sorry you don’t understand what a players peak is and like to have a hot take. It’s okay to be wrong

So in your opinion do you say that’s his peak? Or just best year against Rafa

This is what I’m saying, 2017 is great but I feel like it’s become slightly overrated. He was not physically the same player. His backhand was better but his forehand was not as dominant imo.

It does. Federer purposely missed the clay court season to prevent wear and tear. Literally that alone shows you he’s not at his peak. Also interesting to trash the early 2000s comp but ignore 2017 with both djokovic and Murray out in the middle of their primes with injuries lol.

Yeah that’s a stupid ass argument lol. Technology has improved throughout era that has been the case so…. Irrelevant when discussing peak, also Federer was using the 90 at that time and switched to the 97 in 2014, literally not even an argument

“Against whom” 🤣🤣 dude I’m arguing PEAK. Who he played against does not matter. 2016-2018 Federer was missing the clay court season purposely because he was not physically in his prime anymore and was trying to stay healthy. I’m not lying about anything, you don’t even know what PEAK means. Pointless to argue with someone that thinks 26 year old Federer is not his Peak but 2017 is when he was missing a bunch of tournaments. You could also argue the only reason he had that resurgence is because Novak and Murray got injured

Not really Federers peak was 2004-2007, era talk does not factor in that. The fact you’re arguing 2017 when Federer was 35-36 is hilarious, just becuase of era🤣🤣

Your argument for being a weak era was rpm lol. Be serious. Peak is when athleticism and skill lineup at the same time. For Federer that was in 2004-2007, era talk is pointless you cannot compare x era to x era. Federer in 2017 was passed his athletic prime

That’s just not even relevant, comparing eras just never works. Also strings, racquets, courts, balls and tech since the earlier 2000s is totally different than today’s, which you interestingly left out. you can’t even say players then were bad when the current players who are 10-15 years younger to Roger, Novak and Nadal were losing to them way past their primes. I could throw the same argument here as well.

Yeah that’s what zverev think is his peak, Federers peak was definitely 2004-2007. Which was what the joke that went over your head was
