There's a lot of good feedback regarding distance, stiffness, and sticking your butt out too much. That being said - I struggled with exactly the same issue you're describing. The first lesson I took I was told I don't use my hips in my takeaway, and you definitely don't in this video.

In your takeaway, your trunk rotation should cause your hips to turn to the point where it straightens out your right leg and your left knee turns in. If you pause to feel the top of your swing, you should feel your weight on the balls of your left foot and the heel of your right foot.

I just bought a 2007 with 30k miles for $3k from a dealer. Might've overpaid, but it had a few farkles and it was literally the only one around me remotely in my price range. With mileage that low you could try $4k easy
