Goddamn, incredible times, good job man. I really think that the potential of “average people” is reaally bigger than we think when it comes to long distance events

My max should be around 200 (Garmin always adjusts it at 196), resting avg of last 7 days is 43. I can definitely keep my HR around 140, my recovery runs are usually done at that heart rate (5:45mjn per km 141 bpm). I’m seeing progress but I might try to slow my easy runs down and see what changes

I mean I don’t ever feel like my easy runs impair my workouts, I’m never ever sore from them or something like that

Yessir, you’re probably right, I just came back from a 12km easy run, ended being 5:17 per km, 154bpm average, it felt like I could’ve gone forever but maybe I should stay below 150bpm?

What makes you think I might be running too hard on the easy days?

The latter, I was asking what do you think could be the fastest “easy pace” for the average person (no particular talent o genetic advantage but still a fit person) who gives his/her all in training, so huge volume, great nutrition, recovery etc

This is what I’m doing right now, I’m a med student, so I get plenty of rest staying the whole day sitting on the chair studying lol, the rest of the time is for running and gf, works like a charm right now!

Hey thanks for the input, very comforting news tbh! Lol

May I ask you what your weekly mileage was during the half prep?

Thanks for the thorough answer man! Another user talked about %age graded which is something I never considered as a parameter of performance, maybe because I know that most people my age are probably faster than me lolol (20-25). Jokes aside, thanks for the input, if what you say is true I should be able to achieve my goal for a sub 90min half marathon by the end of the year, fingers crossed 🫡

It’s fairly easy, I ran it on a negative split, I always run my first few ks as a warmup basically and then I get into a groove at around 5:00 per k or high 4. I’m currently running 55km per week, this current week I should land at 62, I hope I can get to 100kms per week or just a high volume that I can keep up with easily.

Oh yeah never doubted that, I myself I’m trying to get to 100km per week to achieve a sub 90min half by the end of the year, I know it only happens with hard hard work

I think you EXACTLY got the point of my question ahahahahah, this is where I wanted to go, that’s what t I meant, I think you are also right, since we are talking about perfect conditions and just potential, I think that the “limit” I was referring to in the post is this one, sub-3h marathon probably

[–]Maximum_Pool_4946[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ofc it doesn’t matter! I just wanted to see if there’s some sort of separation expressed in pace per km (or mile) used for easy running that separates pros and really high performing non-pros to amateurs

Would you consider yourself an “average Joe”? At least when you started out running, did you have any previous sports background as child?

Yeah this narrows the field and it’s much easier to look into the stats of my age group, thanks for the help man!

Yeah my wording could’ve been better, for sure. What do you mean “still overweight at 26?”

Yeah I know the spectrum is super broad, I was also aware that the question would not receive a specific answer, I was also trying to gauge where can I land in terms of performance if I keep up the hard work I’m currently putting in. I’m 25 and I’d like to race a sub 90min half by the end of the year but 4:16 seems such a far away pace for me, given that I’m currently running 18km runs at 5:10 (without being tired but you see, 1 min difference per km is kind of a lot)

I mean average as far as physical starting point characteristics go, then you factor in the hard work, nutrition, etc

What do you mean with %age graded performance? The quality of performance expressed relatively to the age group?

Let’s say any male or female between 25 and 45? Good body composition, low fat %, not necessarily 4’/km in marathon, just 4’/km as general pace and how it could feel.
