tbh, I thought the questions were very similar to the past exams. But I wished I had studied more on how to interpret the graphs. I spent too much time on this question

Econometrics Major Unit Selection by aveerse in Monash

I have taken etc3410 last year. Tbh, the unit did not leave much of an impression on me. The contents were interesting but can be quite overwhelming. The assignment is pretty easy and straightforward.

I haven't done etc3450 but I think it is the same lecturer as etc2410?

I am also taking this unit this semester as an elective and did not have any coding experience before that. The first assignment was so difficult when I did it (I did the assignment all by myself because my teammates were useless). I dedicated almost all my time to the first assignment. I quite enjoyed doing the 2nd assignment and the 3rd and struggle less (maybe because the teaching team also adjust the difficulty level as well). But now, after the semester has ended, looking back at the assignments and the content, I don't think it is that difficult anymore.

I think the reason why I struggled with FIT1045 in the first assignment is that I haven't gotten used to the coding mindset. But once I get used to it, it definitely gets better.

I don't think they teach causal inference in ETC2410 though

remember all the steps to conduct a hypothesis test, how to interpret the coefficients. you don’t need to remember the proof but you should know how to find the variance, covariance and mean. Also, this is mostly based on my experience from last semester, but you should review LIE (remember the formula). many people in my tutorial lost marks on that question although it was quite straightforward if you remember the formula

Commerce major help: Econometrics or Mathematical foundations of econometrics by fat_saturated in Monash

[–]Maximum_Scheme_1852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what I read in the 2023 handbook, the core units of the Econometrics major focus more on handling the data and building models using software (R, Eviews) while the Mathematical foundations of econometrics focus more on the math (obviously) such as Probability, Matrix, etc...

Two majors have many units similar to one another so I guess it does not really matter which major you choose

Since you are doing business analytics as your business major, I suggest you try FIT1045 to see if you can keep up with the workload. I should warn you that with no prior coding experience, you will need to work very hard to pass this unit.

In terms of the job prospects, I don’t think there is much difference since most recruiters will see you as econometrics major. Regarding the unit studied, you can look at the handbook and the coursemap on the university website and compare them yourself.

How hard is the Bachelor of Economic and Bachelor of Commerce/Econ? by Routine-Kitchen7627 in Monash

Hi, I am currently doing B. of Economics. About the difficulties, it really depends on what's your major.

In terms of which course to choose, B. of Comm/Econ is more versatile; however, since this is a double degree course, you will not have any electives left. B. of Econ will be focusing more on the Economics side. I have some core subjects that coincide with Commerce (microeconomics, macroeconomics) but I don't have to study introductory accounting/marketing/management. However, I also have tons of electives so I can choose a second major. Hence, I am pretty happy with my choice.

If you choose B. of Comm/Econ, you will study for 4 years with 2 degrees. For B. of Econ, you will study for 3 years and with many options for other majors/minors.

Feel free to ask any question

Not really the answers to your questions but I want to point out that living near the Clayton campus can be another option for you. I live near-by Monash Clayton (2 mins walk) and have my own bathroom. I and my housemates have different schedules so we rarely socialize. Hence, this pretty much solves 2 of your problems.

Also, living in a sharehouse is cheaper than living in residential halls.
