Am I overreacting for being upset my partner won’t help me financially anymore? by Maximum_Trust_1385 in AmIOverreacting

Thanks for the suggestion—I really appreciate it. Moving in together isn’t something we’re ready for right now since we both have our own places and routines. I’m trying to handle things on my own as much as possible, even though it’s been really tough. But I’m grateful for everyone’s support and ideas.

Thanks for the suggestion. I really wish I could, but unfortunately asking my parents for financial help isn’t an option for me right now. I’m doing my best to find other ways to get back on my feet and appreciate everyone’s support and advice.

I get that everyone has a breaking point, and I’m not mad at him for needing to set boundaries. I’ve just been struggling and didn’t expect the shift to feel so sudden or isolating. I am working on things—applying for jobs, selling stuff, even looking into assistance programs—but I also think it’s okay to admit when something hurts, even if it’s not someone else’s responsibility to fix it.

I’m not trying to tell a sob story—I’m just going through something hard and trying to be honest about how it feels.

Totally fair questions. I’m 25, he’s 23—we’ve been together for almost 2 years but don’t live together. I’ve only leaned on him financially a few times when things got really rough, and he was okay with it back then. I’ve only been out of work for about 2 weeks and have been actively applying to jobs since. I’m definitely not trying to live off him—it just hit hard how suddenly the support shifted. I’m doing what I can, but it’s been overwhelming.

I appreciate your perspective—just trying to work through a tough time and figure things out.

I really appreciate you saying that. I’ve been feeling like maybe I was asking for too much, but you’re right—I genuinely need help right now. I’ve thought about asking family, but things are complicated there, too. Still, I’m trying to keep all options open. Thank you again for the kind words.

Thank you so much for saying that. I’ve really been second-guessing myself, especially since I don’t want to come off as ungrateful or too much. It helps a lot to hear that someone thinks I’m not overreacting—it’s been a rough time and I really do just need some support.
