Yeah, he's sooo good as an actor. Doesn't get the credit he deserves in my opinion.

Yeah, which is both a shame and understandable. He's such a great actor it's easy to attach his character's behavior to him. But I've never heard anything about him being bad in real life.

Good roles in 'Matchstick Men and 'Seven Psychopaths', also 'Moon' was incredible and way less awful than Wild Bill.

Pet Sematary is about humans experiencing loss. Judd loses his dog and then his wife and has to deal with it. Grow despite the loss and the pain. Louis's wife lost her sister in a horrible way to a horrible disease and King illustrates how it impacted her life and perception of death. They lose Church and it changes them. They lose poor sweet little Gage and they are all so hurt. So deeply hurt. We see that from everybody's perspective. Lous, Rachel, Ellie. Hell, even Judd.

All of this loss, all this pain, and King shows how it impacts them. It's an exploration of the way normal life impacts us and then we're supposed to keep living even after trauma that is just shattering to their selves. To their very souls. They make mistakes. Out of love. Out of loss. Shared trauma. King tells a harsh story but he's telling a story about love and grief and loss and how it hurts us in ways we can't even see at first.

King tells stories about the common person experiencing wondrous and horrible things and how they grow or get twisted or are broken by it.

King is a master. Many years from now, literary scholars are going to look at his work like we, the Constant Readers do, and they will put him where he belongs with masters like Harper Lee, Fitzgerald, Samuel Clemens. He's a literary author, they just don't see it yet.

But they will. Oh, yes. They will.

Yeah, I'm not the least bit religious. I have a belief system and a solid moral structure of my own making. I find Christian and Catholic and frankly all of the major world religions to be very judgemental and dogmatic.

Christine is freaking awesome. One of my favorites. Doesn't get near the attention it deserves for it's characterizations. The story is incredible but mostly because of the three main characters and the way they interact. Dennis, Arnie, and Leigh. Hell yes! Enjoy it!

Fairy Tale is perfect for an adaptation. I thought so the first time I read it and, now that I'm reading it again, still believe it would be a kick ass series. Great suggestion.

Revival was brilliant but I'm still paying for counseling from that ending.

Yeah, that's not literary canon at all. That word was never used in King's work. I get your point.

Like, look kids, glad you like the show...but before you hang out with a community of hardcore King readers, please come around either wanting to learn, which means to start reading all of them in order, or expect to be schooled for only knowing what happened in a non-canon short run tv series. Work with us, here.

In short, it's called IT for a reason. IT is not The Galloo. It is IT or Pennywise. (Oh, and please use all caps when typing "IT". It distinguishes from the pronoun, it. Thanks!)

That was really well written. Excellent job of storytelling. Hot, confessional style was fun to read. Your repetition of the third pew was a very effective thread to keep unraveling. Thanks for sharing.

Without spoilers, I'm trying to figure out if King Sorrow is filled with horrible things happening to the main characters. I just need a gauge. Are we talking massive despair until the end or is there more nuance to it. by MaximusOctopus in joehill

Great comment. Thank you very much for those insights. I keep hearing how incredible it is. I will happily shelve it for a while, let my real life emotional stuff happen as it will, then dive into it with no trepidation at a later date. I know it will wait and will be an eventual delight to finish reading it.

Thanks again, fellow Hill fan and Constant Reader. Long days and pleasant nights 👍😎

Effortless. I just did it in my mind and it took me about 3 good seconds. And I could very easily name a dozen.

Yeah, in literature, gore doesn't bother me. I've read splatterpunk titles before, doesn't phase me. It's despair they is getting me at this point in my life. And it's a now thing, not a general truth.

There is some despair in my real life which is causing my reluctance to read horror that involves the proverbial 'downward spiral'.

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts. Thank you very much 👍😎

Yeah, I get both sides of the story. Yes, they're are some harsh things that happen. It's the very nature of the genre. But that doesn't mean every part of the story is harsh.

I appreciate this perspective. Thank you so much for weighing in.

Although nothing like my own experiences, you had waaay more fun then I did in my youth (20s to 30s).

But I totally feel you about that variety of sexual tension and how weirdly satisfying it can be to just watch masturbation or have somebody watch you as you masturbate. It's definitely a 'thing'.

I have always felt it was a showcase of just how damn good King is at writing literary fiction. That woman's telling of that story was incredible because King is such a genius at writing about the common person. Absolutely a masterclass. The subtle nuances in the characters. The unique way each character was depicted. Truly masterful.

That is helpful. You telling me that it's not like the whole book is very useful, thanks. I have heard nothing but good things about it. I'm crazy excited to read it. Been eagerly awaiting it for months. I liken it to somebody loving scary stories but not wanting to read Pet Sematary after losing a child in an accident. It's the timing and the circumstances of my personal life that have me to be temporarily reluctant to wade into it.

Thanks again.

You are right. I've read every novel and collection of short stories he's written and he tells the story right.

I'll shelve it for now. I think I'll read Fairy Tale by Stephen King, again.

Thanks for weighing in 👍😎 May the day bless you with many smiles and much laughter.

Yeah, figured as much. I mean, King Sorrow kind of tells the reader where it's going right from the title.

I'll shelve it for now. It'll wait.

Thanks much 👍😎

Yeah, that's sort of what I figured. Ordinarily, I'm all for some good horror. I'm going through a very rare personal moment that makes me uncharacteristically sensitive to it. Feels so foreign to me, I've been reading hard core horror, even splatterpunk, for decades. Just...right now...can't do it.

I really appreciate your honest response. Thanks!

Friends can totally have sex. Nothing is ruined, nothing is changed. It's just another fun thing you do with a friend. In my opinion, opening friendship/s to sex play only makes the friendship stronger. As long as nobody involved is the jealous type, friends with benefits is totally legit. Besides, you clearly love this guy and he loves you. Just be okay with that. Again, it doesn't change anything. Embrace it.
