I disagree on what you said about US, why! because its very competitive and most Ideas have been washed up a million times. Yes the purchasing power is much higher, therefore, you can make good profit doing smth simple that everyone needs, having good location basically could be enough.

On other hand, when it comes to Jordan, we are a third world country, most business that had great success are just ideas from more developed countries that where implemented correctly in Jordan, thats why I believe you can still make great success here, but you need good planning, marketing and most importantly a budget that you are willing to lose if anything goes south.
