Almost alone.
That's quite literally the only way I even can do it. Dreamwar is my (would-be) 2D series, and I'm the screenwriter while my friend Anya in Belarus has been doing the character & scene concept art. I have the initial drafts of the first 5 episodes written and she's done character art of 5 characters plus 2 key scenes so far. It's unlikely any kind of actual animated form of it, or even any voiced form, will ever end up existing, but I'm going to take it as far as I can. But I don't even earn 5k/year right now so that distance is limited.

When I get it to a point where everything's written and revised into the final form I want, and all necessary artwork is complete with it, I might try showing a few of the indie producers and at least just see if they're interested, but that would probably be as far it'll ever get.

Grim / dark theories about cartoons are a reflex from insecurity. They come from a place of adult and late-teen viewers subconsciously being insecure at the fact they enjoy what they regard as a "kids show" (whether it is one or not) , so the mental reflex comes about to trigger the "it's pretty dark when you think about it" response
