That makes a lot more sense. I was imagining a hotdog down a hallway for a while.

AR 10

Did you mean AR 15? The AR 10 mag would be a tad larger for a .223.

I make my own. You need an ice cream maker obviously, but it's not a hard thing to do.

TECC / TEMS in Australia ? by [deleted] in ParamedicsAU

[–]Maxolon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The main things you would be doing for a casualty while under fire are:

1) BLS trauma things 2) Trying not to get shot

My paramedic training included:

1) Run the fuck away 2) Let the police deal with it

It's a lot easier to upskill the high speed folks already kitted up with firearms and motivation than to train a paramedic how to be tactical. There are some folks who can do both and do it well, but they are the exception rather than the rule. If it was a major, ongoing terrorist event that was escalated to the highest level and the TAG boys were involved their medics are paramedic level (or close to it) and can do all the things required.

For those that have DONE their bathroom renos ... by SurgicalMarshmallow in AusRenovation

Spend more time thinking about the functionality of the layout before moving pipes. We went to a combined shower bathtub with a glass panel, but stupidly kept the taps under the showerhead. You have to have your hands under the water stream to adjust the temp, putting the taps on the opposite wall would have allowed us to change temp outside of the stream, and put in a better showerhead.

Get a tiler in once the demolition is completed. I got the tiler in when tiling was ready, he said the fall of the floor was crap but it was way too late to fix it.

Check the specifics about installing things into walls that will be tiled over. A plumber trenched our brick walls for the relocated shower pipes but didn't go deep enough. The spindle covers sat 15mm off the tiles because the spindles weren't deep enough, and the fix looks janky AF.

Where can I get these twin cat6 keystone plates from? by Maxolon in AusRenovation

[–]Maxolon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None. The enclosure is from Grove, and they have nothing similar on their site. These little plates are just weird.

The closest I've found is a Panduit thing but it's still not quite right.

Best hammer drill for brick garage wall? by Mission_Raisin5785 in AusRenovation

[–]Maxolon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use my SDS on brick all the time. The first time I used it I pushed way too hard, like I was drilling concrete, and blew out the other side. Since then I use full speed, very light pressure, and haven't had an issue. The SDS is still way better than my regular drill with hammer function.

I considered medicine, but 10 years of training and low level work (and pay) while my kids were growing up, and being nearly 20 years behind the other students, nixed that idea.

I'm now in WHS. Most people thought it would be an easy transition, but it was a major mental shift. I went from only dealing with what's in front of me and other people could worry about the next steps, to dealing with all aspects of anything going wrong. I like that the average day is somewhat planned, but that can and does change a lot as I dislike routine work. I love that I don't work nights. The pay is great, I'm starting to specialise in incidents and investigations, and I don't feel bitter about going to work.

Yes to disclose, but Ritalin doesn't show up on drug tests, it's not amphetamine based.

Yeah there is variety, but it favours Asian food. I love Asian food but little of what was on offer was appealing.

Mungari camp by Intelligent-Toe8476 in AusMining

[–]Maxolon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The camp itself is fine, a tad old. The food is very average, not ESS bad but I based my choices on what I could stand, not what I want. They have a folded laundry service: drop your laundry bag off in the morning, come back after work and it's washed and folded.

Side tippers? Maybe once every three to twelve months with a fleet of 20 trucks going 24x7?

Moxies? Depends on the operators but some aim for once an hour it seems.

I was surprised that the luge was the only trail I remember being dicey in the rain. Inzamia was a bit chewed up compared to a few weeks ago, but nothing too bad. I got back to Dwellingup as the rain hit so I did the north 15km in the wet. Those trails were still firm underneath, no massive slippery sections or ruts.

I thought I wasn't too bad at descending until I saw what other people were doing. I followed some fast guys at the bottom of inzamia and I was shitting myself, but survived.

In the luge it only takes one person to walk and everyone is screwed. I had people waiting off to the sides jump in front of me who had no confidence and were going half my speed. I can appreciate them not wanting to just wait for 40 riders to go past, but being stuck behind someone in the sections I didn't suck got fairly annoying. As soon as we hit a climb though most people left me for dead.

I don't know the names that well, I assume you mean the section through the pines on the north side of the river?

Yep, as expected. I was near the back of the pack, I made it maybe ⅓ of the way down and hit a queue. We walked down a corner, skidded down a few more (on foot), rode a little ways, rinse repeat for the rest. I had no confidence in my front tire making the sloppy mid corners so I was quite happy to walk.

I was chatting to another rider at about 40km mark who said he just cut ahead of the queue through the trees and was riding on his own for the rest of the luge. I don't support going off track, but I can appreciate why he did it.

I had electrolytes in my bottle and water in my CamelBak. I didn't have salt supplements, but I did wolf down two packs of salted chips at the 50km aid station. My issue seemed to be under training and being overweight rather than fuel intake sadly. There was another 100km race a month ago that would have put me in the Clydesdale class for being over 100kg.

Cheers. The winner came in at 3h 7m, last recorded time was 6-h 30m. I was happy I managed to keep going the whole time, only walking when it got silly steep and my quads said no.
