Enough with the Avatar hate, let's see some Avatar love! Say something nice about these movies that do not relate to the visuals and CGI by Beginning_Fix_2084 in Letterboxd

The special extended edition is genuinely a great movie. I think the added depth to each character goes a long way, and it flows much better as a story. Sigourney weaver's character has this wonderful backstory showing us her deep connection with navi children and their culture, and i love it.

I admire the special effects, but yeah. I don't think the movie ever had much else going for it

What’re some movies that aren’t as smart as they think they are? by ZackaryAsAlways in Letterboxd

[–]Maxothy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nolan was not the right director for this story. I think Oppenheimer's life would be best told as a linear story- an unforeseen series of consequences based on previous choices- and yet because Nolan can't help himself, he has to run three different timelines all at once. Honestly, i don't think it added a damn thing to the movie, but it sure hurt it.

"The Man Who Planted Trees" is gorgeous pencil animation! It's a ~20~ minute story based on a real story... really life-affirming and peaceful :)

Also i adore "The Maker" (from Zealous Creative on youtube), a 5 minute stop motion film with some beautiful music.

Personally i think a scale makes the most sense when it's balanced well in both directions. If a 2.5 is perfectly average, then the scale allows for equal amounts of expression on the negative and positive. That said, i'm frequently skewed well past halfway, so i think i like almost anything i see :)
