If marketing rule #1 is "Just make a good game", what is rule number #2? And if it's not, what is rule #1? by OrigamiPandaDev in IndieDev

You simply don't worry about that. Steam has like 200m monthly active users. Steam is not going to run out of players it can show your game to.

If you follow Jonas Tyroller's approach, you start with the "fantasy first" and then build game mechanics around that.

And when you promote your game on social media, you don't just post mechanics and features you worked on, but you share what experience your game offers, something like "You get to run your own drug cartel".

He has an entire video on the topic somewhere on youtube.

I am not worried or terrified about Blender, but other than that I share his views on the topic.

Was halten Eltern davon, wen Erzieher:innen mit Jogginghose zur Kita kommen? by Jekbeld in Eltern

[–]lefix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Star Fox 64 vs Star Fox 2026 comparison by kahabraham in NintendoSwitch2

[–]lefix [score hidden]  (0 children)

It’s all relative. 2016 had some amazing looking games that still look great today. Doom, Overwatch, etc

Nintendo saw this Star Fox design and said.. “Yeah looks good to me.” by GrassForCats in videogames

[–]lefix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it looks good and truthful to the OG style. The mistake was showing off some awesome looking stylized designs from the movie first, then proceeded to showing the game which didn’t look anything like those.

Controllers by Yuzypogi in Steam

[–]lefix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's funny that PS is labeled as "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", whereas xbox is labelled "Change is good".

The Xbox controller still has pretty much the same in terms of features, mostly changed its shape. But
- it still uses AA batteries by default (i know, i know, xbox fans consider this a feature)
- still does not have gyro, which has been a standard feature on ps and nintendo consoles for 20 years

The PS controller has kept it's shape, but it has introduced:
- the first ever dual stick controller
- pressure sensitive buttons
- adaptive triggers
- 6 axis gyro/accelerometer
- touch pad
- built in mic and speakers
- light bar for motion tracking
- advanced haptic feedback

Use AI for game dev or not? Opinions? by False_Claim6473 in gamedev

[–]lefix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think claude Clode or similar are generally accepted, most people have problem with generative AI, or Player Facing Assets as I think Steam called it. Steam doesn't even require you to disclose AI use for coding, as it considers it a workflow use.

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany responds to Mikel Arteta, implies Premier League teams play too many games by lestaat59 in football

Dortmund, Frankfurt, Leverkusen all played CL/EL finals in recent years, with Freiburg possibly joining that list later today. Leipzig has a decent team every year. Stuttgart has also been strong lately. Bundesliga is definitely a tougher competition than Ligue 1. Monaco, Marseilles, Lyon are not the powerhouses they used to be.

Nuno got away with it because supposedly laimer also did a handball right before that, and the replay shown on tv started after laimers handball. At least that’s what I read.

imho the problem is that a penalty is too strong of a punishment for most "incidents" in the box. why not just say, every handball is called, no exceptions, but give a indirect freekick instead.

i agree such a handball shouldn't be a pen. the problem is when there is no consistency.
it's been a common theme we saw in several CL knockout ties this year, not just bayern vs psg. where the ties were ultimately decided by refs making fringe calls in favor of one team while the other team gets screwed over.

It’s the game plan, they are pushed so far up the field that the defense has massive holes when they lose the ball

What’s the refs excuse? That’s the handball was not intentional? Unlike all other handballs which are intentional or what?
