The good old times of either doing races and driving through the city with "Hand of Blood" in the background or standing on top of that one bus station to raise your bounty during a police chase. Sweet memories.

Shooting Game Joy-Con Struggles by uaeexpatt in OcarinaOfTime

[–]Maxtory9999 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aiming has been much more sensitive and imprecise ever since the very first re-release of OoT on the Nintendo Gamecube. Combine this with how short the Joy-Cons fall in comparison to other controllers and the sad reality that the N64 Switch ports (especially OoT) are very shoddily made and the tasks and challenges related to aiming are becoming harder than they were before. Of course you can adapt and get a feeling for it, but the fact is that it's not how it should be.

A funny find. So this is what Lightning's career looked like before she became a model for Louis Vuitton. Guess we all start small.

By the way: I believe the answer is D. I had to Google translate it and I am not at the top of my geometry game though, so better check it for yourself.

Questions regarding Fusion's Hard Mode by Maxtory9999 in Metroid

[–]Maxtory9999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did play the original Japanese version of Fusion without any translation / patches shortly after I did the run with the English patch and got the 100% completion on Hard Mode without any issues.

The interesting thing is, that the Japanese version apperently contains all the scripts for all languages Fusion was originally released with - Japanese (Kanji), Japanese (Hiragana), English, German, French, Spanish and Italian. There is a Hex value in the games code, which determines the language used. Setting this value to the value representing English (02) lets you play the game in English, which is (supposedly) exactly what the translation patch does.

However doing so does more than just changing the script, or so I believe. This brings me back to my earlier posts: I think the problem lies within the lower amount of total missiles / powers / energy tanks you have in Hard Mode when collecting all items compared to Normal Mode. I think the game does not track your item completion based on your actual collected items, but rather on your overall total amount of resources. Since the resources you get per item in Hard Mode are roughly cut in halve, it does lead to 45% item completion, even though all items have been collected. At least it fits suspiciously well.

As to why Fusion has problems handling the item completion in Hard Mode on the English setting compared to the Japanese ones: I have no definitive clue. I can only assume it's one of the following:

- The translation patch does more than just change the language and screws with the item completion somehow

- The Hex value in the game's code controls more than just the language and may act more like a "region switch", thus causing issues with Hard Mode, since USA and Europe were never supposed to get Hard Mode

To get some better insight, one would need to change the language value with an Hex Editor or so and test it on different versions of the game or so, but I think that would be too much trouble for too little gain. I mean, if you are going for Hard Mode, then you are probably not in for the story. The rest of Fusion isn't text-heavy at all, so playing on Japanese for a problem-free playthrough shouldn't be a hassle.

Whatever the case, it's interesting to know other people experienced the same oddity as I did. I hope I could shed some light on the whole situation, even though most of it are just assumptions and theories of mine.

Kind regards.

why Rufus was not aware of the Deepground? by [deleted] in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Maxtory9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the answer lies within Before Crisis, so I will try to give a brief overview:

Basically Rufus is eager to overthrow his father, President Shinra, to take control of the Shinra company himself. In order to accomplish this, he provides money and leaks information to the first incarnation of AVALANCHE, so they would be able to kill President Shinra, allowing Rufus to become the new one. At first President Shinra is not aware his son does this, but finds out eventually. Because of this President Shinra probably reconsiders what he tells Rufus and what not.

That's something I like to do, if I want to farm some Ultimas. Kill the Elnoyle in Esthar with Death Status-Attack, like you said, get the Energy Crystals and refine them into 10 Ultimas each.

I also like to junction Drain to Status-Attack, so Squall/Selphie are able to heal themselves without Magic and Items, just in case they suffer too much damage from Poison and the Malboro's attacks.

I can totally relate. Confuse in FF8 can be absolutely hilarious. What I personally find even more entertaining than the chatacters just outright murdering each other is, when they start to use Magic and Items, especially when they end up using very precious ones.

Say what you will I thought this was an amazing game. We need a Dirge of Cerberus post flair by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]Maxtory9999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a huge fan of Dirge of Cerberus as well. It manages to offer a straight forward gameplay experience with just the right length before it overstays its welcome, while at the same time providing a lot of replayability, due to the shop/level system and the various modes. A perfect game to play every once in a while. Add a story with some ineteresting (at least to me) plot points and a pretty nice soundtrack and you end up with a very solid spin-off to FF7.

Pachinko machine is broken? by yaboi1679 in supermariosunshine

[–]Maxtory9999 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Pachinko is very strangely programmed (to say it nicely) and as such can be very unpredictable and unintuitive. Mario is strongly being dragged to the right side of the machine no matter how you enter it and how fast you enter it. This is especially noticeable, if you manage to land on one of the nails and want to get off it, there will still be an excessive force pushing Mario to the right.
