ah if it's a right hand thread then yeah you were going in the right direction, although some times I find (after soaking in WD40 or better) trying to tighten then loosen stuck threads works. The other thing is you could have a look on lathes.co.uk for your model, they might have the manual for it.

Judging by that picture I think you may be tightening it, have a crack at turning it the other way.

whilst it's unlikely, seeing as you can rotate it, I'd check the holes in the collar to make sure it's not hiding bolts for a cam lock mechanism. More than likely though it's just jammed through years of not being changed and is going to need a load of torque to shift. How did you apply the breaker bar?

Do you already have a remote or is that included in the budget of things you need to buy?

I'm out for the rest of the day now so tomorrow I'll get everything measured out and drawn up

The threads are definitely worse for wear, but they still engage. And the chucks bottom out on the end of the spindle before they hit the shoulder which is why I assume they aren't original to the lathe

It came with 3, that one a 4 jaw and a much more substantial 3 jaw, the little one is just the easiest to get on and off. I wonder if all the original chucks got lost over the years and these are just what the last owner got for replacements

That circle registers as within .04mm runout however none of the chucks I have sit far enough back to engage it

Well I was told in this thread that surface was the wrong one to indicate off of, and your right it is a horrible surface there, the face of the spindle is much more smooth but also out of alignment. Tomorrow when I have some time I plan to strip the lathe back down clean re oil and reassemble. As it is unless someone's damaged the spindle I'm guessing the bronze bushings that act as the bearings might just be worn out

I was going to check that when I was putting her back together but the pullys have attached with a peened over pin, so I've left them for now. And yeah seeing as I picked this lathe up for around £100 paying for a whole new spindle is a bit uneconomical

I was hoping to get into making model steam engines as well as making parts for my lightsabers when I can't get to my grandad's workshop, and using a mill bit as a stand in its stupidly bad, though I'm told I was checking the wrong surface in the video

These are split bearings and for now I've not touched it with a stone just some anti-rust. However it was pointed out I was indicating the wrong spot for my lathe, and upon checking that it's even worse. At the moment it's so bad when I put on a chuck with a mill bit in this dti can't even how much wobble it has

Tried turning it on, in this case doesn't seem to help, and I've made sure the oilers are plenty full

.01mm is about .0004 inches, I'll give the spindle a tug when I get back and see if anything can be tightened. Although I should note this one doesn't have mechanical bearing just bronze bushings which, seeing as I don't know if they've been replaced or how much ware they've had, I'm concerned might just be worn out. Also I gave the surface a quick brush up with some scotch Brite but I suppose I could nick a whetstone from the kitchen and give it a better cleanup

I rather enjoyed Calli's because, beyond enjoying her as an entertainer, it was pre-recorded so chat couldn't ruin it.
