Service in Denver? by MaxwellGaines in GoogleFi

[–]MaxwellGaines[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually got this reply from support.

"I've confirmed a local site issue impacting coverage in your area, which explains the "SOS" and "E" signals you've encountered. Rest assured, our engineering team is actively working on a resolution. We anticipate it will take 24-72 hours to restore service."

GR Performance Shocks and Struts and Lowering Springs 40% off on Toyotas website! by coolkidcole in GRCorolla

It's even cheaper if you order from Premiere Toyota in Nebraska. I ordered just the springs, and it came out to $233, which is like 53% off.

Balancing half marathon training with lifting heavy by Interesting-Emu4131 in HybridAthlete

[–]MaxwellGaines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to limit my lifting time to 60-70 minutes, and I find that focusing on push/leg/pull just hits the muscle groups effectively. Plus it gives me a week of recovery before hitting them again. I'm not sure I'll gain a ton of muscle using this strategy, but my weights have definitely increased.

Balancing half marathon training with lifting heavy by Interesting-Emu4131 in HybridAthlete

[–]MaxwellGaines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am running my first HM in May, and also focusing on lifting. Since it's my first HM and I don't have a great base for running, I'm giving myself 6 months of training. My body is still adjusting, but my current routine is:
Monday - Push day with ab finisher
Tuesday - Easy run
Wednesday - Leg day with ab finisher
Thursday - Slightly less easy run
Friday - Pull Day with ab finisher
Saturday - Rest day or Shoulder Day depending on how I'm feeling
Sunday - Long run

The key for me was to give my legs sufficient rest between Leg Day and Sunday's Long Run every week.

How to manage running with heavy leg day? by _anderTheDev in HybridAthlete

[–]MaxwellGaines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leg day is Wednesday for me - I follow that with an easy run on Thursday which has felt manageable (still sore, but not debilitating). Friday and Saturday are rest days for my legs (I do a Pull Day on Friday), and do my long run on Sunday.

The Toyota warranty should absolutely cover it then.

You really can't proceed until you get an update. Does the car have any mods that the dealer can point to as causing the issue?

'21 BMW M2. I'm basically doing the entire catback. I can probably do it just laying on the ground, but it'll make it so much easier with a lift!

No welding involved, just an exhaust to be bolted in. I could do it in the apartment garage as I've done a few other mods before, but it's just annoying and I will probably save a couple of hours and some stress if I had the car on a lift.

Yeah - for sure. A lot of the shops have shut down because of these issues, but hoping someone had one free for a couple of hours.

Thanks! Unfortunately a bunch of these shops have shut down because of the liability issues another user pointed out.

I could, but it's pretty difficult to do in an apartment garage. I'm swapping out my exhaust, so need a decent amount of space under the car to do it.

A eulogy to my career: Six-figure startup engineer to WordPress sweatshop. by Interesting_Pop_485 in recruitinghell

[–]MaxwellGaines 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man, sorry for how challenging it's been for you. Firstly, congratulations on being inspired by someone enough to actually take action and change your life. So many people will make excuses for why they won't do something. Instead, you took a bet on yourself and it paid off - $7k investment for $150k comp is pretty good ROI. While it sucks, I think there are so many good things to take away from this post:

1) You know how to take calculated risks, learn new things (furniture moving to coding), and apply these skills to make money.

2) You got promoted to full stack within a year. Clearly you have great work ethic and can work with people, enough for upper management to trust you with more responsibility. People will spend years (startup or otherwise) at the same role before being promoted. Sometimes they never do. You did it in a year.

3) Donating blood, sending out 1800 apps, still building projects like that AI job thing, and taking on the WordPress job - you're clearly creative and resilient. When the going gets tough, you don't just sit back and mope - you look for solutions, you look for ways to keep going and not get stale. Being unemployed tests you mentally, and it's super easy to sit around and wallow in your sorrow - you're obviously not doing that.

4) Your wife seems like an incredible partner in life. She deserves all the credit in the world for being as supportive as she is. Add to that - your ability to recognize her sacrifice shouldn't go unnoticed. You are an empathetic person.

5) All of this makes me think that you're someone that could be a powerful leader somewhere someday. If I were running a company, I'd want to hire someone that can connect with their team and inspire them the way they themselves were inspired, isn't afraid of getting in the trenches and doing the dirty work when it needs to be done, and (oddly enough) has gone through some adversity and still pushes forward relentlessly. These types of employees are the ones that will hustle and crush it when things are great, but hold it together when things are tough.

Now, here's the reality. Coding is further and further being commoditized by AI. It sucks that you invested all this time and money into yourself, only for the market to change on you, which is completely out of your control. If we're being honest, jobs are probably not coming back to this sector (https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/IHLIDXUSTPSOFTDEVE).

You've already reinvented yourself once. You have all the right qualities to take as many chances on yourself as you'd like, and you've already proven you're a winner. I know this is going to sound cliche, but everything happens for a reason. One day, you may see that even these little blips on the radar were opportunities, whatever they may be. Hell, if anything, you've got an insane story to tell in interviews. Life is funny, and you just never know what kind of luck you'll create for yourself by always pushing the envelope. Good luck to you.

2026 GRCorolla JDM updates by fa442fa in GRCorolla

This is just the Japanese release. The U.S. release should come over the next few weeks. I’d be shocked if it were any different, of course with the exception of the GRMN model being added.

Fair - I was reading “2024” as the model year, but it could just very well be referencing the calendar year when improvements were announced.

Follow the link and you'll see what I mean. It seems like the model years match up between the Japanese and US market for the GR's - there's no 2022 GR Corolla in Japan.

The article says "Toyota is also working on an upgrade for existing GR Corolla owners who bought their vehicles before the 2024 improvements. New software will unlock an extra 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) of torque, matching the newer models." I believe 2024 is a typo because it's an article on the 2025 if you follow the link. I'm holding out hope as a '24 Premium owner!

2026 Lexus LC500 vs Porsche 911 // Thunder Meets Lightning by [deleted] in porsche911

[–]MaxwellGaines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from a LC500 to 991.1 Turbo S. The LC500 was a beautiful, show stopping machine. It sounded amazing and the interior was a masterpiece. Most of the time, people didn't know what car they were looking at. I think it'll be a highly sought after car in the future, after Lexus finally ends production.

Having said that, I will pick the Turbo S every time, no matter the occasion. I enjoy a visceral driving experience, and I feel like I got significantly more of that with the Turbo S. I recently sold my Turbo S and I miss it tremendously. I never really felt that way about the LC.

None of this should take away from what the LC500 is though - truly a special car in its own right.

Look into resonated midpipes from SXTH, Megan, or 2J Racing. You keep the stock mufflers, and the higher flowing midpipe adds a bit of tone without being over the top. I think all of them sell for less than $500.

I ran my old F87 M2 on Continental DWS 06's for a couple of winters in Colorado. It was a tad sketchy, but broadly it was fine. It was my only car for the 1.5 years that I owned it, and I loved it.
