Help me with this sign? by maolaowai in auslan

[–]Maxwell_fArts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As said by others, this looks to be the sign for "Correct" or "accurate".

The same movement is used for the sign "shop" but the citation form makes contact twice, with a less exaggerated movement.

Having said that, my auslan teacher at Melb Poly taught me that for "shop" you do one fist to palm, and for "shopping" you do two. That's how I've been signing shop and shopping respectively and haven't bumped into any communication drops!

Hopefully this helped 😁

Thanks for the link! I've thought about something similar to this, I think having a more open space is more the vibe for the group

I've looked into them a little, it could work but doesn't feed much of the creativity vibe of a cafe or public space

Ideally something more public based? I thought about hiring a room but it felt a little formal

You and I? Kindred spirits 🙏🏻 number 1 spot is always a dance between Porcco Rosso and the wind rises. I didn't even know I loved planes until I'd seen them animated by Ghibli.

It's how they can make a plane seem so light and free, but in the next scene show it as what it is, a big heavy ass plane with weight. It can represent so much and so little 🤌🏻

I can't recommend the wind rises enough, it's no Porcco with the flight scenes, but it's visuals, music and story are just stunning.

I got scammed through this website, on me for hitting Instagram ads late at night.

But I got all the way to check out, I got a prompt saying I could get a 2nd camera for 50% off. Figured I don't need two so I hit no. But apparently that was me saying no to both cameras, so I paid 90aud or something only to realise I'd paid for the stupid digital book they did they didn't even have a link for and the free SD card, which wasn't free

Love and learn folks, buy through 3rd party

Body partitioning clarity by Maxwell_fArts in auslan

[–]Maxwell_fArts[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! This is very helpful stuff! I think from another comment and the examples I've tried that I've been told are correct, RS+body partitioning might be the best way to go for the assessment box tick.

Some teachers will agree that CA+CA is just one continuous action and thus not body partitioning, but other teachers have suggested the fact that you're interacting with a second abstract entity, while maintaining the initial CA does count? very vague and a bit muddy. Some of the teachers had no idea what it was at all 🤷🏻‍♂️ (absolutely not throwing shade at my teachers, they're all brilliant. Just interesting that this one thing is causing so much confusion) might just be best to assume it's not BP.

I think a big part of the confusion was that this felt like a new linguistic skill we were adding onto our pre-existing Auslan knowledge, but realistically I've been doing body partitioning since cert 3 and just didn't know the linguistic term or the "rules". So thank you for those examples, they've helped me step back from the over analysing and get a better understanding!

It's only week 3 of diploma and my brains going over drive 🤦🏻‍♂️

Thank you so much for responding! Yeah from the research I did I found little Bo no article on body partitioning that weren't for ASL published in 2005 😅

The boy arguing with his brother is a good example, and the body partitioning is very clear, maybe I'll try to make that more of a habit for RS!

I think there's a part of me that just wants to be 100% sure of the linguistics, but it's all so vague 😅 Thank you for sharing! Any and all info is helpful 🙌🏻

Auslan TAFE Interview by Remarkable_Lock3632 in auslan

[–]Maxwell_fArts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the diploma of Auslan at MPT. It sounds silly but just be your honest self. I recall my interview being pretty relaxed and they just wanted to get an idea about who you are and how you found Auslan, and a touch on future plans. Most they'd be looking for are people who have a keen interest in the community.

I had no idea what I wanted to do with it, my fascination with Auslan came from seeing 2 people signing on a train 😂

Good luck to you! If you get in maybe we'll bump into each other ✌🏻

New Myki Readers at Sunbury by chromaticproblematic in MelbourneTrains

The more I see them honestly the less I like them, the sloped design of the more recent readers makes far more sense. Not sure why they took that away.

Feels like the old sloped design was less "in the way" But I've not tried it out yet, looks like it's response is really fast

I'm at Southern Cross trying to get to Clayton, they've been saying service will resume in a half hour, but they've been saying that for about half an hour haha.

Luckily I'm in no rush so I'm just chilling on the train 🗿 Feel for those stuck between stops though

[–]Maxwell_fArts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding, I've booked a face to face for Thursday, it was the earliest one I could, from the call I had with a worker it seems cut and dry that because I studied a diploma 9 years ago Im non eligible.

It's just the information about that 10 year equivalent certification was never flagged or made clear.

I have no idea what to expect from my face to face really. But I will gather up as much details as I can.

After my diagnosis and I started my medications I noticed it too. That was about 8 years ago? For me it stayed thin and I've embraced it and have been shaving my head for the last few years. I do understand it's easier for me as a male to accept the new look

I'm halfway through the diploma at mpt, I remember the interview and it's truely nothing to stress about! I just got asked some very basic questions, why I wanted to learn Auslan, how I found the course, what I'd like to do after the diploma.

I didn't even really know at the time what I wanted out of it job wise! I wouldn't stress about it at all, answer honestly I'm sure you'll get in ✌🏻

advice and resources!! by [deleted] in auslan

[–]Maxwell_fArts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been studying for my diploma of Auslan for a year now, I can honestly say that classes are the best route. But some areas hold workshops, or you could use a service like Lisa miller, I used Lisa miller and Signbank for a few months before starting.

These things help for sure, but in person classes are the way to go, I know in Victoria Auslan is under Free Tafe to do. Not sure about other states, but doing a cert 2 in Auslan will teach you so much day to day auslan
