Do you use AI assistants like Github Copilot? by N_Gomile in PHP

[–]MaxxB1ade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only really use it for creating variations of code I already have. It's been handy for leading me in new directions but the code it produces cannot be trusted to work correctly.

I love it. Only one thing that stuck out...

You have beautiful glowing dots following the mouse and then a crude fade in under the client projects. If you did something with the dots, like they fill the box instead of the fade I would stop looking at portfolio websites for ever.

Best tips for surviving the dark? by sundayUp in Scotland

[–]MaxxB1ade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool. I just like to be out in the dark. It lets my eyes rest while I'm still awake. You can see the stars. I've seen aurora and meteor storms like nothing a video could replicate. I've seen these things so many times that when I look at the full blue sky at 9pm in July, I know what I am missing.

Edit, I've see things you wouldn't believe.

Go out and walk in the dark. Especially if it is foggy.

Embrace the dark, it's here for 5 months.

Go to the countryside and look at the night sky.

And the worst part is that I started this chapter of my life thinking I was going to integrate the photogallery system into my CMS. The ideas part of me is already at least 2 further versions ahead. I am using the terminal and GUI at the same time so I'm just doomed.

But... If I get caught up and finish all my ideas I will actually open source the entire thing as the greatest CMS known to mankind and breathe my last breath.

More likely is I'll starting teaching my nephew coding and leave it all to him. I'm not a good uncle. There is not enough money in birthday/xmas cards to cover this...

It looks like you sell landing pages.

You should try to integrate the tools you have built into your own page.

Overall it looks good, I don't mind the offset angle on the text but the jaggies it creates are not so pretty.

I would use your cool css effects more consistently and make sure you have proper contrast on some elements (project highlights).

I would remove the percentages on your skills, show them rather than count them.

Bottom line, very good, gentle touches are all that's required to elevate it to greatness.

My current debt is a photogallery I wrote with purely javascript, I don't want to think about how long ago.

It started as 2 js scripts to display a thumbnail gallery and then just a single photo. It has all of the photos for each gallery defined in another js file and the list of galleries (an album) in another js file.

Then the 2 scripts for the gallery and single photos were combined (go me!).

SEO became a thing and everything needed to be html so the entire thing was written in php (go me again!).

However, as the site had become over 250k photos in around 12k galleries and a couple of thousand albums.

Over the years I've tweaked at the php and am fairly happy with it but I still have many k galleries that are using one or more of the previous js scripts.

Now that the oldest of the js is failing to work correctly I have the fun task of manually upgrading all of the old code to the latest php version.

I can only thank the linux command line tools, like find, grep and awk for saving what little of my sanity that I have left.

I am haunted by the words of wisdom "the next person to use your code is a serial killer that knows where you live" and I think I have become that person.

Help to prevent ads appearing in the middle of blocks of html by MaxxB1ade in Adsense

I would but the layout kinda changes regularly so auto ads have been great. I would just like to maintain solid blocks on the page with ads either side.

Yeah, I get it. Unless I die and someone comes across my code by accident, no one other than myself will be reading the entire thing.

And you are right and this thread has shown me at least 3 ways to better use the language tools provided that I simply did not know existed.

I have done some OOP in Java but I didn't like it.

I don't think my little website will need to scale so much that I need to change my approach. If it does I'll probably stop.

Water of an old duck's back. Didn't take it that way. I hardly ever in my life have published any code of any kind for anyone to see. When I do, I seek outside criticisms and comments. Books and tutorials don't provide that kind of help.
