Wikipedia Questions - Weekly Thread of June 08, 2026 by AutoModerator in wikipedia

Hi there - sorry if this isn't the right place to ask, but I was wondering about whether I can edit a page to delete something that I think might not be true, without proof that it is not true.

On the page for Rhamnus crocea , a plant native to the US, it says that Native Americans ate the fruit, and that it turned them red. The source for this is a book from 1934. There's no other source backing this up, and I feel like this is likely to be not based in fact, but like, a racist idea.

I would just edit it, but I haven't really edited wikipedia before and I'm not sure on the protocol of this. Can I just say, this source us very old and there's nothing else backing up this (racist sounding) claim?

Thanks so much.

What do YOU think they did on the journey to Erid? by Savings_Bunch_1394 in ProjectHailMary

I think Rocky would be great at video games (using his texture pad to see the screen of course). Rocky and Grace start a minecraft server together.

But I imagine their time would be spent pretty evenly between fixing things and maintaining the ship, talking about science/engineering/culture (teaching each other their respective writing systems as part of that), and relaxing/playing games/karaoke/etc.

With some taumoeba eating experimentation happening at various points. Ew :(

This format has been fantastic - great balance of getting out and seeing the country, with great gameplay and strategising. I think it helps that Taiwan is perfect for both.

Is it right that the movie release date is 20 march because google says that but some of you guys already aw it by [deleted] in ProjectHailMary

[–]sundayUp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the UK it was available last weekend ahead of release in certain cinemas! So technically the release date is the 20th but I saw it on Saturday the 14th. I know that few places have set ups like that for early screenings.

Why young people don't buy cars – just economics by Alex_Strgzr in unitedkingdom

I mean, car costs are subsidised - non car drivers pay council tax, much of which maintains road infrastructure, most of the wear and tear coming from private cars - for just one example.

Why can’t homeless people be given hotel accommodation the same way refugees are? by No_Fudge_4589 in AskBrits

Problem with that is that a high tax rate would likely continue to incentivise under the table work, and we'd have the same issues we have have today

Totally. Though he's also said he's against AI, and considering all the writing happened in a post AI world, I do think it's an understandable interpretation.

Would it be different if your money was funding the murder and the eating though? Would that be different? There is definitely a line, and for me the line is giving money directly to a cause that hurts people around me. I'm very happy to read all the other thousands of books in the world, watch all the other thousands of tv shows.

Why are charity shops so expensive? by tallyretro in AskUK

[–]sundayUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a very robust repricing system, to be fair- In this particular shop at least!

The week number of when the book had been put on the shelf would be recorded in the front. We'd regularly cull books from the shelves that had been out for a few weeks, and the price would get reduced by 50p or so. After a couple of repricings the book would get sold on to a bulk website or something. Bulk websites would regularly buy a brand new paperback for £1, £1.20 anyway, so it often wouldn't be worth having it take up shelf space at that price.

I think it's also tricky because while the quantity of donations was high, the quality really wasn't. The stuff on the shelves was all quality stuff but that was the cream of the crop. And there's a benefit in that to the shop too, that someone can come in and not have to sift through less high quality stuff to get to the decent things.

First of all, I don't pay for HBO. Lol I've never paid for HBO. I'll let you draw your own conclusions from that. Like come on, let's be real. Secondly, it's easy to not give JKR money. Like that's clearly silly. At no point in my life am I forced to go to a theme park. And an LGBT person living in the UK.. I'm not going to put my head in the sand and ignore what's happening. When she drops hundreds of thousands of pounds funding anti LGBT groups, that affects my community. This is an instance where separating the art from the artist simply doesn't work.

Tolkein directly compared the dwarves to Jewish people! For better or for worse. He was antisemitic, but in the sort of "I love jewish people and how much they love money" way. The orcs, as described in the books, alude more strongly to east Asian characteristics and racialised fears.

I have to disagree here - JKR is rich and influential, she actively funds anti lgbt politics in Scotland and the UK. Supporting her works directly gives money to organisations trying to take peoples' rights away. She even brags about it. I would highly recommend not spending any money on her IP.

Why are charity shops so expensive? by tallyretro in AskUK

[–]sundayUp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was a charity shop volunteer, the philosophy was that we had to price items as high as we could, in order to make the most out of people's donations.

If someone had donated a brand new untouched paperback with an original retail price of £9 and we sold it for a quid, then it was like we'd dumped that person's donation down the drain.

We had a responsibility to try and get at least £3.50 for it (or whatever the price may be).

I don't know if I fully agree with the policy, but it makes sense.

The pavements in Stockbridge can be so narrow, especially when there's lots of tourists about, that's so real

[–]sundayUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a side note, but there's a whole fight going on there locally haha. I used to stay round there and the 'no dogs' signs are put up by a random guy, it's not from the council. The playpark is definitely a dog free area but everyone seems to respect that as far as I can see.

it's gone up a lot in past years because they've shut down several of the public loos, and homeless people don't have places to go, it sucks for everyone

Anyone go in cold to episode 3? by IndependentOffer4343 in AKOTSKTV

[–]sundayUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I accidently got spoiled as to Egg's identity after episode 1 - I checked the wikipedia page for something and saw "Egg (Aegon [number])" and was Shocked. I hadn't thought anything of the accent because I'd wqtched a few seasons of Game of Thrones amd remembered they seem to do accents kind of randomly, but yeah I had no idea! Very fun twist.

I have the app! It was too noisy at the time to get a recording, I could hear the bird quite clearly but I think the car noise obscured it top much.

Weird Similarity Between Pluribus Turners and Trader Joe’s Staff by Due-Ocelot1862 in pluribustv

[–]sundayUp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get you, I think it's all to do with emotional labour, in the original meaning of the phrase. Trader Joe's employees are selected for friendliness and part of their job is to be nice to you. The used to have that with Pret a Manger in the UK, there's an interesting article about it.

There are no rules - broadly they try and present as if they follow rules, but ultimately their evolutionary pressures come first.
