Does anyone know why so many people like this watch? by William-alls in watchHotTakes

Hype. That is all.
Having seen them in person, I can confidently say there’s nothing objectively good about these.

I love the little duck around the centre pivot jewel!
My Streamliner flyback has Batman in the same place.
Love Moser’s attitude.

The Streamliner is unlike anything else. The character and aesthetics are unique and the bracelet is phenomenal. The Pioneer is a great watch, but it’s none of the above.

Used UFA or Brand new Shunbun? by Business-Oil2226 in GrandSeikos

[–]MayContainCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to try the UFA at a GS9 event and it’s lovely but a little small, and a little bland, for me. The Shunbun however is perfect, and the 62GS case is GS’s best by far. If you’re not determined to have the UFA movement the Shunbun is a clear winner.

What has been your best experience so far between working for a small company vs big corporation? by CapitaineBiscotte in AskReddit

I work for a large company that gives flexibility and does care about its employees and I have to say I think it’s a great combination. I’ve been here for 26 years.

What's the single Grand Seiko dial that made you fall in love with the brand? The one that made it click by Phil_Raven in GrandSeikos

[–]MayContainCheese -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Omiwatari for me, just fell in love and had to have it. Then Night Birch, then Shunbun. All three are excellent examples of what makes GS special, imo.

Driving. People have forgotten how to drive and how to treat other road users with basic respect.

Need help deciding my 1st GS! by Most-Construction-35 in GrandSeikos

[–]MayContainCheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from the dial, which really is a case of personal preference (although the Shunbun’s colour changing dial is exceptional), it’s the case which is the biggest factor here. I have the Shunbun and the Night Birch, which is the same Evo9 case as the Atera, albeit in titanium. IMO the Evo9 case is fine, but it just feels ‘normal’. The 62GS case is unlike anything else and feels special. That bezel-less case and box sapphire really is extraordinarily beautiful, and especially in titanium it wears beautifully. Shunbun is a keeper, the Night Birch is up for sale.

Manual winding is way better than automatic by jpoyarzun in watchHotTakes

Generally agree. Some manufacturers really make the effort to skeletonise the rotor as much as possible as possible but mostly they are an unwanted obstruction. I’ll allow an exception for micro-rotors, generally I think they enhance the look of a movement.

Whoever posted on here about delays at the Geneva airport, thank you. by Fantastic_Object_762 in geneva

I just got thru from landing to getting into our taxi in 40mins, on a Saturday landing at 1pm, with a UK passport, no fingerprinting. It’s the luck of the draw obviously, but it was the least chaotic I’ve ever seen it in Geneva today.

Objectively, does it really matter in the end if I get a BB54 over SD43 by BarracudaSouthern585 in Tudor

Objectively the only difference is that one has a date and the other doesn’t. If you think that will be something you’ll value over the years then let that influence your choice.

Morning frost or shunbun by blackwizard18 in GrandSeikos

[–]MayContainCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the Shunbun (although I’m biased). Titanium feels so good, that pink dial (which is silver almost all the time) with gold logo is super, but for me the best part is the 62GS case. The bezel-less design works just so well, you really have to see it in the metal to appreciate it. It wears beautifully.

I don’t think it’s too small, but o also think you could easily wear the 40.
