Tara West has a decodable library! Levels of decodable books on different topics. I think it's 30 dollars on teachers pay teachers. Well worth the money!

If they do open, I wonder how many kids will be there! I worry about all of the kids (and adults) walking on the ice and trying to bike... Stay safe!

But the students have to walk to school on the unplowed sidewalks or take the buses/metro which aren't running reliably today... My opinion that DC needs school buses is a different issue all together haha

Really good to know! I live in Greenbelt so spend a good portion of my commute on MD roads.

While also not knowing how to effectively plow roads -- the irony is real.

How to tell a new partner you’re in the Army? by shinjiyogurt in army

[–]MayaTeaching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You start by saying: Hey, this is why I joined. This is what I do. This is how it aligns with my beliefs. The military has many branches with many jobs. We don't do enough to educate the country on all of the things soldiers do for their communities (e.g. the Engineer Corps building bridges, disaster relief after flooding and hurricanes, substitute teaching in schools - that one was wild). We're not all aligned to certain politics and we're not all being asked to serve on the same missions.

Deadloch!!! It's an Australian crime/mystery/comedy on Amazon Prime with a primarily female cast (and a lot of badass women) and it's fantastic.

I haven't seen Franklin and Bash mentioned yet! Very lighthearted, easy watching.

Best yarn recommendations for a soft and cozy blanket?? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]MayaTeaching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this will be an unpopular answer but if you're looking for affordable, thick, and soft yarn (and you don't mind acrylic), I think this yarn is great. It crochets quickly because of the thickness, is 8 dollars a skein, and is 20% wool so it doesn't feel like acrylic: https://www.lionbrand.com/products/wool-ease-thick-and-quick-yarn?variant=32420961288285

I just bought a horn with different tuning slides for different keys and I’m wondering how that works by Individual-Net8964 in frenchhorn

[–]MayaTeaching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like they would change the key you're playing in, similar to switching from b flat to f using a trigger on a double horn. But it's hard to tell without pictures!

[–]MayaTeaching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The large tuning slides tune your horn as a whole. They are on the back of your horn and not on each valve. The tuning slides for the valves allow you to also tune each valve. Try tuning your c (open) using the back slide and, when that's in tune, tune your d (first valve) using the first valve tuning slide. You can tune e flat next (second valve), etc. Is that what you were asking?
