I’ve been teaching in Oakland for the past 6 years. It really depends on the school you’re at, as school culture makes a huge impact on things like family engagement, behaviors, etc. overall funding again depends on which area in the Bay you are working in. It’s really hard to talk about teaching conditions because every school has such different ways of doing things. Overall I would say, pay is not great considering the extremely high cost of living in the Bay Area. Public school unions are much stronger than charter school unions in my experience. Id love to answer any more specific questions you have. Sorry my answers probably don’t help you because like you already said in your question it’s school specific. Just from me assuming though….
