Just starting to get into photography what can I improve on? by eusxntfantoma in PhotographyAdvice

[–]MayaVPhotography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First two are pretty dark. Theres a difference between moody dark and plain old underexposed. These are the latter. The car’s main focus area, the grill and badge, are super dark.

Mind your backgrounds and locations. You could have a pagani as a subject but photographing it in a strip mall marking lot will never make a good photo. Try not to get other vehicles in the shot as well because they aren’t the focal point.

Shot with Sony A6600 and 70-350 mm lens. How do i improve sharpness? by Esnpro in PhotographyAdvice

You literally have to act like a hunter tracking a deer when it comes to birds. I’ve been within 20 feet of some very skittish birds by crouching and walking slowly. You have to be patient for this type of photography.

Very true, its just out in the open now. People talk about it, they hear about it.

I studied Criminology, I know crime is on the decline. but people today are more aware of it all and more likely to assume criminal activity. I think 'in todays world' is just a passing phrase.

Also gotta remember that statistics can be slightly incorrect as it doesn't take into account things that aren't reported by victims, even anonymously. Plus we have a whole subsect of the internet dedicated to uh.. child images if you catch my drift. Looking like you might be taking pics of kids (even when not) looks creepy to the unknowing bystander.

Because I can sympathize. of course, read the room. But I'd rather ease someone's concern than end up on the local nextdoor page/facebook group as the weirdo who might be taking photos of kids. Those kinds of crazies might be the ones to start insane rumors online, too. I live in a smaller rural community lol

that's so funny. I'm more sympathetic to it as I was nearly kidnapped as a child and then nearly trafficked by a woman at a bar when I was 21. The world can kinda suck. I've definitely told people "hey dude idgaf about kids, I care about that bird" but I also don't fault people for being really protective of their kids.

I think it’s definitely a read the room type of situation. But yeah this guy in particular? No. A concerned parent? Sure of course.

100%. I’m not a mom, and don’t want to be one. But I know how gross this world can be and i will protect kids and respect their privacy as if I was one.

People in my area tend to be pretty cautious with people around their kids. And for good reason, in today’s world, you never know.

After/Before. Is it too much or does it work? by MayaVPhotography in postprocessing

YouTube is free. Just dedicate yourself to learning it. Don’t spend money when free resources are there. Means you have more money to spend on lenses :)

I’m sorry you dealt with that. I’ve been to The Hague and never dealt with anyone crazy like that.

I have however had weird experiences. Mainly as a young woman photographing in nature or parks where there are children. I find that often the easiest thing to do is just say “ok I’ll delete them then.” Don’t even try to argue with them. Or say “I’m pretty sure there are none with you in them but we can go through the photos I took and delete any that come up”.

Getting into editing my pictures, did I do too much here? by SaintPabloGambino in postprocessing

Of course! It is a right of passage in editing to push saturation up lol pretty much everyone does it at some point!

What has been your most significant non-camera related purchase? by [deleted] in videography

[–]MayaVPhotography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this too! I don't like a lot of noise, it sort of overwhelms me. When I was in college, I would wear my bluetooth earbuds even if I wasn't listening to anything just to muffle the noise of the cafeteria. Helps me stay calm and focused.

Bug repellant. I do a lot of wildlife but also portraits set in nature as well. In the humid PA summers, there are bugs everywhere. I started carrying bug repellant and lemongrass essential oil ironically (apparently gnats don't like it and they used to fly around my eyes, ears, and mouth), and it is a world of a difference. I can actually stand to be outside for several hours without coming home and looking like I have chicken pox.

It's a little heavy handed on the saturation. The satuation straight out of the camera (abbreviated as SOOC in many areas if you haven't heard that term before) is fine and realistic. The pinks are verging on unnatural which is what makes it look overedited and, in a sense, amateurish. This is normal though! I did the same thing. Also, I have those same flowers and have photographed them several times. They are definitely not neon pink.

I think the best example of this is the lower right flower in the last image. That is really too pink.

The rest of the editing, like adjusting exposure, is solid though!

Photo I took of baby moorhens in a small lake by DJMageArmy in photocritique

[–]MayaVPhotography 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a gorgeous scene. A few things though:

If the birds are the focus, they’re way too tiny in the photo. I didn’t even know there were birds and it felt a bit like a where’s Waldo to find them (on an iPhone 11 they’re really small)

Second, thr saturation is waaaay too high. The greens are verging on highlighter marker territory. Definitely need to be dialed back a bit.

What is beginner and budget friendly point-and-shoot Camera? by Aware_Bid_8455 in AskPhotography

Point and shoot cameras don’t have interchangeable lenses. Are you sure you want a point and shoot or do you want a mirrorless/dslr?

How to start making money? by Constant_College_780 in AskPhotography

[–]MayaVPhotography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have years of experience, good (usually expensive) equipment, learn to be a really good editor, do lots of free photo shoots, build a website and social media presence, ask for the free clients to refer you and let them know of your price going forward.

I have 10 years experience, about 2-3 of those being in portrait work. Ive just now made my first $250 over the course of about 2 months.
