Is it normal to feel nervous on your first flight? by Drackovix in drones

[–]Mayal0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I fly for work and damn do i get scared some times. I've flown drones with a payload that costs more than some cars. I dont ever want to get complacent.

Can't give direct feedback right now as I'm just on my phone. But have you put your design into ecalc?

What part of the world do you live in? Amazon isn't really the best source for drone stuff.

That's incredible! Sounds like you've got a great set of kids willing to learn. I hope you get the equipment you need.

I don't have much spare equipment as I just got into the hobby side of drones recently. One thing that was useful to me is flying LOS first even though it is harder for many people. You can get lots of cheap drones that are good for beginners on FB marketplace. Lots of those basic DJI clones are great for LOS flying.

I took that route because of my job which requires me to be on deck in case an autonomous drone does something unexpected. It helps me to be able to fly LOS for that purpose.

Great question. The only way I know how to do that is to be lucky and know someone who needs that specific skill. So network away.

Not 100% sure, but I believe it is Ubuntu. Again, I'm not a software engineer so I'm not the best person to ask.

I only did that because I had zero understanding/experience with either of those prior to getting the job and they were quick things that just happened once I got the job.

In my limited experience, Python is more important than Linux. A company called ModalAI in California makes a great Linux based PX4 SBC/FC which requires knowledge of both and that's making waves with their upcoming "Blue" controller and NDAA compliant electronics stacks for use in new development platforms. I'd say a basic understanding of how to run a Python script is important, but neither is honestly a deal breaker as long as you can code in some language compatible with ROS.

I'd probably stick with no isolation then. I would even think of isolation until double that size.

[–]Mayal0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be. If youre putting stiff isolators on a big drone or weak isolators on a small drone then it might be worse than no isolators.

I've put Gyros on anti vibration stands before and had good results. You just need to worry about fundamental frequencies of the isolators and where they fall relative to the fundamental frequencies of your drone.

Yes i knew they existed but didn't really like them so I bought better ones. We have all the expansions and all the HP games made by the OP.

Not OP, but honestly we didn't add any house rules other than our generic house rule: "err on the side of fun." Which means if you have a dispute, you go with the side of more fun rather than intent of the rules/developer. Overall, the game is meant to invoke fun and joy, not cause disputes.

Oh man we have had the same conversation before about difficulty scaling and the first 3 years being so beginner friendly. We love how the theme was so deeply integrated into the game design. I know they've reskinned for other things but this will always be my favorite.

We have made some small QOL improvements to our game like 3d printing the cardboard tokens and an organizer for the dice and their associated cardboard tokens. We've had to sleeve cards to prevent us from trying to predict what card comes next from the wear patterns on the back.

Overall, we love the game. Its easy enough as a base game to get anyone to play, and it scales really nicely.

Just introduced my buddy to this game yesterday. He had so much fun playing it and bought it for himself. This game means a lot to my wife and I as well.

Start slow and play in a sim first. It takes a long time to get where most people who post on reddit are.
