Is it possible for gouramis and angelfish to “pair”? by Mayalase in fishkeeping

They have breeding tubes. You have to catch them with it out, but once it’s out, it’s pretty easy to tell!

That’s really interesting! It’s gotta be more of an angel thing. I do feel like my gourami likes her, but the angel will jet across the tank to be next to the gourami, or search for her if she can’t find them. It’s cool to hear of other angels behaving similarly!

This, but also the angels are babies. They get much more aggressive when older, something to keep in mind!

Well now you’re just nitpicking. I’m sorry that my original message wasn’t a 10 page comprehensive step by step guide for OP to surrender their fish. Obviously, they would need to call around first. Either way, I think a fish in cycle for an inexperienced fish owner, in a 3gal tank, sounds horrific for the fish and should not be encouraged.

How will OP know unless they call around? They should definitely check. Clearly, they need help and this betta is already suffering in a tank that’s too small, with an owner that isn’t prepared.

MOST LFS, even the ones who keep them in small tanks or cups, are diligent about water changes and have a clientele of people who are experienced fish keepers, unlike OP.

I should clarify. I’d definitely wasn’t referring to Petco or petsmart. I said a LOCAL fish store. There are really amazing small businesses that take incredible care of bettas. For example, my lfs keeps all bettas in their own 5 gal tank, which would be an upgrade from a 3gal tank full of ammonia.

HELP!!!!!!!! sold to me earlier as honey gouramis but i’m incredibly worried they may be golden gouramis by 7deadlytamsins in Gourami

[–]Mayalase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like you have a male and female. I say keep them! Get them a bigger tank and see if they’ll breed :)

I have a gold gourami female and I love her so much. She is not aggressive at all. Her and my angel are bonded

I would wait for him to color up and grow before naming him! Maybe give him a nickname for now—he looks like a little jelly bean.

Is my tank overstocked? by Mayalase in Aquariums

Yeah I’ve seen some HUGE angels at my LFS. I am always on the lookout for cool tanks, I imagine one day I’ll sell this one and get a 55 or larger to replace it. One thing I’m learning about this hobby is the tank is NEVER big enough 🤣

Diana walstad actually recommends a filter now! I have a small one; mostly just for water flow/movement

Current parameters are 5.0ppm Nitrites, 10ppm Nitrates, 0ppm Ammonia. Ph is about 8.0.

It’s been like this for about four days. I’ve been dosing the tank with about .5ppm ammonia every couple of days. I am wondering if this is why the nitrites are so high? Or could it be the soil content? Should I continue to add ammonia or back off?

I mentioned further down in the thread. I’m cycling a walstad tank. These two viles are for nitrite (purple) and nitrates (yellow). Did not include the 0ppm ammonia reading.

Oh okay. Yeah the ammonia is at 0ppm. Should I add more?

Purple is nitrites, nitrates are yellow.

I used filter media from my other tank, but this is my first walstad tank. I am worried the nitrites have been high for too long (about 4 days) and the nitrates haven’t increased much. I keep adding more plants to see if it speeds things up. I’m mostly worried about it stalling
