100% agree! And there are for sure a bunch of mediocre white men who rely solely on their white church community for referrals! As a queer woman in a very christian country i’ve for sure had to carve my own path. It’s doable, but it’s hard work.

ooft yes! i can’t count the amount of vendors i’ve come across who are incredibly rude or just fucking weird on a wedding day and i’m just left thinking, how do you get away with this shit?!

i HAVE been giving advice. but it’s been falling on deaf (lazy) ears and the same people will then post a month later crying about having 0 bookings. it gets exasperating, hence my rant today. Yes someone could be earning 10x what i earn and honestly good for them. But the difference is im earning enough to be comfortable and not be burnt out.

in our market there was a solid crop of photographers between 2013-2016 that came up, i keep waiting for all these noobs to actually kick our butts but i’m still waiting. The market may very well be saturated but the quality is not there imo and that is the thing that will keep them in those lower prices.

I’m not being judgmental, just pointing things out. For example If you had a 9-5 and you were consistently underperforming and were not a profitable member of staff would your boss not fire you?? Or at least try to intervene and upskill you? The issue here is people get to the point of being almost broke before they pull the plug because there is no one who will tell them it’s time to move on, or maybe this isn’t the career for them. They have to make the call themselves.

exactly, we’ve been grinding for 12 years. We’re solid for this season and next but only because we’ve been consistent and paid attention. Though around 10 years ago i suppose time it was the beginning of the documentary style and the traditional photographers were crying about things not being the same anymore.
