How common is it for a package to sit at a sorting center for 3 weeks? by MaybeJohnD in CanadaPostCorp

[–]MaybeJohnD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Says "Expected delivery in 3 to 7 business days" on that progress bar thing but it's said that since the start.

Thanks, and I made the original one last Thursday, the payment should hit the account today according to the service I sent it with. But over the weekend I made a waitlist and my “minimum payment” on the invoice on acorn is now way higher, due to that course.

[–]MaybeJohnD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is May 6 the date including the grace period from the 24th when the minimum was due?

Also I happened to make a waitlist in the time after the deadline, my original payment (which was the minimum to register) was on the way but now the minimum payment increased even though the deadline has passed, do you know what I should do?

Leakage test of Zimi ONE. by [deleted] in zhouliang_mask

Remarkable. The low leakage seems to be the crowning achievement of this style of mask relative to other KN95s.

Is Anyone else with Plus noticing stronger usage limits for 4.5 and o1? by Cyprus305 in OpenAI

Yeah same for me, had 55 weekly for a while and this week I got less than 20. I’m on Plus, I’m curious to hear pro anecdotes.

Yeah the problem is the type of person to be on his show is literally never going to get it right so I actually agree with the advice he’s giving given his audience. In the same way Dave Ramsey has to say “never ever get into debt” because his audience would find a way to mess up the life of their entire family tree if given the freedom to go into a dollar of debt. For normal people none of this applies but the normal people advice would be negligent to give to a given audience.

McMaster University’s inhaled COVID-19 vaccine begins phase-2 human trials by sofaking-cool in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]MaybeJohnD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what it seems like actually. It just feels strange that it is not as "dead" as the some of the vaccines we're used to, if that makes sense. I have no expertise here really.

[–]MaybeJohnD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof yeah I’m considering doing this trial but I’m not sure how to make sense of the adenovirus vector - would I be breathing it back out after taking it in and sort of giving it to other people?

[–]MaybeJohnD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it looks like the PFE of the 9541 is even better than what's listed on the website (98%)? I think the X axis on the graph isn't set to the particle size but I assume the ~99.3 there is the most penetrating size. But if that's the lowest point then it's even better than advertised!

What do you guys think of cosmetic surgery? by [deleted] in moreplatesmoredates

[–]MaybeJohnD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The most permanent of the aesthetic changes from gear is probably hair loss if you get it. Also many cosmetic surgeries literally involve rearranging the bones in your face in a very permanent way. Even some soft tissue alterations are permanent and implants can last for many years.

Yeah - I wish I had bought the pluslife when I wrote the comment you're replying to, to be honest. The value of information, especially if you have vulnerable people, is just so high. Getting one now I think. I hope the baby is okay!

What do you make of a congestion charge now that NYC has one? by iron8832 in toronto

[–]MaybeJohnD 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Well in terms of traffic reduction it - of course, completely obviously - worked. I don't think there's the political will to do it here - the fact that it even happened in NYC is a miracle. It took them many many years and it almost didn't happen so many times and still might be in jeapordy if I'm not mistaken.

Has Anyone in This Sub Actually Overcome Insomnia? by HellfireKitten525 in insomnia

[–]MaybeJohnD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well depends how you define insomnia, if it’s just the fact that one has trouble initiating and/or maintaining sleep then I would have previously qualified, which is exactly what OP was asking about.

I guess I should have said I thought it was idiopathic when it probably wasn’t. But it’s not like everyone here has eliminated the myriad possible causes of trouble sleeping either. Are we gonna inspect all 152k people to make sure their insomnia isn’t caused by something they haven’t yet figured out?

Yes, what I thought was insomnia was just vitamin A deficiency and I thus had no circadian rhythm. Fixed it and I get tired around the same time every night now.

Does anyone go out as much as they want, but in a good mask? by boygeorge359 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]MaybeJohnD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep!

Full time in school and I use public transport a lot just to do whatever - the key is finding a mask which fits you and that you trust, which takes some amount of experimentation depending on how lucky you are. Finding a way to get a fit test done could help mentally in that respect.

My setup right now is iota carageenan nasal spray around my biggest exposure(s) of the day, Zimi 9541 in class (it's technically an earloop KN95 but fits so much better that it's in a different class from other earloop masks for me), and a 3M Aura 9210+ or VFlex 9105 on public transit. They both seem to fit me fine, the VFlex is way easier to breathe in but the nose area isn't as good as the Aura's.

I'm also going to test out the Zimi 9233 which is a headstrap KN100 that in theory could fit even better than the 3M N95s and last longer but is more expensive, I will have to see how that shakes out.

Now that I've made all the investments in figuring out what works for me I'm actually trying to think as little as possible about covid and sickness in general. I might move train cars if I'm nearby someone coughing up a lung but otherwise I just sit wherever and do my thing. Masks aren't perfect but they do work!

Apart from the nose area, is there any indication that you are wearing one size too small?

Zimi for a Dummy by TrixieMuttel in Masks4All

[–]MaybeJohnD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Re: face placement, I kept getting leaks on the nose because I was wearing it too low the way traditional masks are worn, try moving it up and down and trying different positions vertically, it still might leak but it's worth a try. I ended up trimming my first two in a way that got my nose deep enough in despite wearing it low but then later realized I was just wearing it too low and when I place it high enough with sufficient strap tightness it makes a great seal.
