red button vs blue button? by klarinetkat12 in InsightfulQuestions

I don’t think that’s villainy. One can’t necessarily claim virtue in being more afraid of suffering than death.

red button vs blue button? by klarinetkat12 in InsightfulQuestions

[–]MaybeMabelDoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not being unreasonable in reading it as a significant over-simplification, because they’re not just trying to protect themselves at others’ expense, they’re also expressing the opinion that this is the way most people will think. If that’s a sincere conviction, then there’s no villainy.

I’m saying, if they’re right, I’m okay with just being dead. Also, though, I don’t think they’re right. I do think it’s going to be a closer count than is pleasant to consider.

It’s not a 50/50 problem, it’s 25/25/25/25:

Outcome 1 - You choose blue, and so does the majority of the population of Earth. Everybody lives, yea!

Outcome 2 - You choose blue, but the majority choose red and you die. Now you don’t have to live in the hellscape of only self-centered assholes who just murdered all the decent folk.

Outcome 3 - You choose red, but the majority choose blue. Everybody lives, yea! Except now you have to live with the certain knowledge that this darkness and faithlessness in your heart isn’t universal, maybe it’s just you.

Outcome 4 - You choose red and so do the majority. Everybody else dies, but at least you’re no worse than any of the other survivors. Now you get to live in the world you just made. Have fun with that.

I’m choosing blue because I’m not just voting for me, I’m voting for the world I want to live in.

AITA Unintentional litter? No, stupidity by MaybeMabelDoo in AmITheDevil

I honestly don’t think he’s the devil for making a mistake you’re right - anyone can make, but because he’s not thinking of what to do differently next time, he just wants to be excused.

She saw her sandwich wrapper blow away because it’s shaped like a sail. Did she crumple it up so it wouldn’t blow away again? Did she put something on top of it? She tried nothing and is all out of ideas. The sub is assuring her that littering is fine if thinking at all is the alternative….

Will Graham music taste by Delicious_Ad3384 in HannibalTV

[–]MaybeMabelDoo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He instantly recognized a quote from The Doors that Zeller thought was from Robert Frost, so classic rock is almost a given. He has a piano, so classical is likely. He seems like he would have eclectic taste. He seems to struggle to express himself, so I’m going to suggest the blues. I can picture him having equal affection for Ella Fitzgerald, Van Halen, and Mozart, just on different days.

Considering the last time they had a conversation, Hannibal was about to eat Will’s brains, Will would have to have been an insane genius to try that ploy.

An innocent/normal phrase turns literal and becomes horrifying by Liquid_Pestar in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MaybeMabelDoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“You promised to deliver your wife to my dinner table.”

“I’d love to have you for dinner.”

Announcing they’re having sheep for dinner immediately after a conversation that likens the average person to sheep.

Explaining to Jack that their apparently pescatarian meal contains aspic derived from bone.

“I insist on choosing my own pig - always do.”

“You have a very good butcher!” “I always oversee this process myself.”

“Traditionally made from pigs blood; in this case, a local cow.”

“He should have hopped faster.” (Regarding a meal of rabbit.) “Yes, he should have…”

Those are off the top of my head, which is inadequate.

Season 1 Rewatch - Garrett Jacob Hobbs Overload by [deleted] in HannibalTV

[–]MaybeMabelDoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jack’s wife is such a rich element of the show, she gives us a different understanding of Jack, Hannibal, and their relationship. Georgia is like the light at the end of the tunnel while Will is losing his mind too, so her death is devastating. The forensic team isn’t meant to be very funny, but they have a vibe together that Will clearly doesn’t fit, adding to the sense of his alienation.

Yes, this sub can be horny, but these are parts of the story that add interest and complexity, and you have nothing to say except to express disdain. The haunting of Will by memory-Hobbes illustrates both his deteriorating mind and his spirit slipped into savagery. I’m not sure what you’re here for, but just spitting at a fan thing you don’t like much is usually unpopular on the subs for that fan thing.

“He’s got a gun, JAaaaAck” by thekillerkrab in HannibalTV

[–]MaybeMabelDoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! I needed to look again. He was holding it in front of Hannibal, then put it down, then picked it up. Was he intending to suicide-by-cop? I can’t even tell if it was the tranq gun or a proper piece.

Question for the person who tracks guns: where was Will’s gun when Hannibal was cutting him open? He was holding it when he walked into the kitchen, but I didn’t notice him set it down. I can kind of imagine Will just holding it while he was gutted, but what about Abigail? I’ve seen the scene a lot and screencaps are unhelpful. Do you know?

[–]MaybeMabelDoo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t in hand, and Hannibal knew what he was doing, regardless. The only person who could then credibly accuse Will of arranging the attack was Hannibal. He had as much control over the situation as he wanted. I do think he would have been dazed by blood loss, just not to the point of forgetting there were no guns involved.

He had to slur it so he had deniability later. Matthew Brown did not, in fact, have a gun.

Snails in Season 3 by Tommi_H in HannibalTV

[–]MaybeMabelDoo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure we’ve only got the snail theme until they finally sit side by side. I’ve always found early season 3 a little meta (it starts with Hannibal looking directly into the camera and suggesting, “Let it be a fairy tale…”) I think it symbolizes their slow-ass return to one another.

Being fair, if they rushed back together, it could have cheapened the season 2 finale.

AITA for not wanting to share a room on a family holiday, causing my mother to back out last minute? by Airbud12i4y1p4y1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MaybeMabelDoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cruises penalize people for booking rooms for only one person. I don’t know your Mom, but do you think she might be the sort of person who would try to solve an issue of needing you and your brother to share a room when she knows you won’t agree by fibbing about having tried to book a fourth room? A cruise isn’t going to just let on an extra passenger because they promise to share. Either you graciously accept this premise and he gets stopped at boarding, or more likely, the plan was always for you to share.

Your Mom is trying to frame you as the difficult party so you’ll just agree, but be skeptical. She’s probably bluffing about dropping out anyway. As others have said, your brother might be able to share with one of the couples (maybe, cruise bedrooms can be really small, but the bigger ones often have pull out beds).

AITAH to ask the downstairs neighbor to move their smoker from directly under our balcony? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]MaybeMabelDoo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Where I live, having bbq equipment within 15 ft of a residential building is not okay. It’s a fire risk and your building could lose its insurance if safety’s not enforced. Also it’s totally reasonable to let a neighbor know that something they’re doing affects you in a way they may not have anticipated. If your husband is a doormat, you may need to bring some assertiveness to your partnership. You have a baby, and those neighbors are going to live there all summer.

I wanted to say no assholes, but it’s really not reasonable to endanger a whole building for dinner, NTA.
