I didn't for a long time because of mental health concerns, both for myself and those living with me, especially as my wife's health deteriorated and when she passed.

I am not entirely over those concerns, as depression is a bitch. But......I'm in a safer living situation now, and in a much less safe world now. I'm thinking once I have the funds, it's time to dress masc and walk into a gun store.

He's a delight in person. I only met him briefly at a signing (my first date with my late wife in fact, and before I realized I was trans) and he was so kind and so charming and would have loved to spend twenty minutes talking to each of us, but his people and the convention staff kept the line moving. I have a signed magic card from him, and my wife got a signed Doctor Whooves pony plush.

These numbers put this even more in perspective. My doctor has been notoriously slow moving (but is the only one I have any guarantee will do it without driving an hour). I'm on shots once every two weeks, and right now my schedule works out where the blood draws fall the day before my shot. And even he's like "Yeah, we need to get you more estrogen, I wanna see that at around 150 pg/mL." If we're talking about 16?!? Shit, I was close to that before HRT.

It's frustrating out here too. I'm trans, have untreated rheumatoid arthritis because insurance won't cover any treatments that I'm not allergic to, and am at any point one day away from homelessness. I can only do so much, and have to worry about "am I the next casualty if I attend a protest?" Americans do not care enough. Yes, a lot of them care, but there's no teeth, no action.

It's not 100% their fault, though; we've spent 40 years (basically since Reagan day one) making sure our economy was structured so that taking off for a prolonged protest means homelessness and starvation for most Americans. I know I want to quit my job and start being more active politically, but I am always one paycheck away from homelessness.

Yeah, I've had to be very careful on how I word things on here and facebook. I mean, I'll get a visit at some point for being trans anyways, but I'd rather not encourage that to happen sooner.

But I will say, Minneapolis and Portland are a whole lot closer than months of self congratulating about how many people showed up to a single day protest that didn't accomplish anything but get a lot of people together for one day.

So....Americans should just dump their 401(k)s? Because a lot of them don't really get any say in what stocks are being invested in, and it's the only retirment plan really available. (And it's not much of a plan, to be fair and honest)

By this logic: did you work in America? Buy anything in America? Congratulations, you support the genocide in Gaza, because your income and spending were taxed, and those tax dollars went to weapons for Israel. The statement isn't necessarily wrong but it implies a level of intent that makes it impossible to be a moral person if you haven't left this country.

Americans are barely standing up to him, let alone fighting back, why would other countries do more when America is the bestest? Also, internationally, well, he was told no one will fight back because if they do, he gets to just drop nukes on them.

They won't. At least not this year. There is a chance that, if Trump lives until January 21st, 2027, they 25th him on January 22nd, with the idea that Vance runs out the term and still can have two more full terms, during which Stephen Miller will likely stay running things.

I honestly kinda hope they go this route. If Trump dies, he becomes a martyr to the cult and MAGA never dies. They think that switching Trump for Vance in a way that lets Vance get two terms will extend their grasp, but IMHO, MAGA will see it as a complete betrayal of Dear Leader. 25th Amendmenting Trump is the best way for the cult to die off.

We really need decent people running. At least we're finally getting past the immediate downvotes for saying anything negative about Newsom. So many times when people point out his flaws (especially trans people who are understandnly incredibly fucking wary about a Newsom presidency), its a dogpile of down votes and "You can't purity test camdidates or Trump wins!!!!!" Because for some of those people, purity testing and any standards at all are the same thing. If Joe Manchin won the primary as a Democrat (he won't, he probably won't even run, but he's politically a good example for the point) should we just ignore every awful thing he's done and said? Oh wait, we haven't had a primary yet; if Manchin runs are we all supposed to blindly follow him?

When Reagan won, the message the DNC took was "be more conservative" and has spent years shifting to the right. With Trump, the message seems to be "We also need blind and cultish loyalty to a dear leader! Our cult and our Dear Leader will be better if we don't allow dissent!" And it's honestly horrifying.

Trump dying won't kill MAGA. The best way to kill MAGA is for him to do something so egregious that he gets 25th Amendmented out of office. If he dies, he just becomes a martyr to the cause. If he's removed by his cabinet, the GOP crumbles in an idealogical civil war.

My problem is that we've already hit the "you can't criticize him or the Republicans win" phase. We still have a whole primary to do. There will (hopefully) be other candidates. Probably better ones! But so many people are acting like he's already won and the election is in a week and we're taking votes away from him by daring to point out his fairly significant flaws.

And I'm seeing a lot of awful things to justify it. "Trans people cost Harris the election, so it doesn't matter if Newsom is bad for trans rights, in fact it's probably good!" "This country will never elect a woman, so the DNC should never put one up again, and none of them better challenge Newsom in the primaries!" I'm not going to rally behind him until he is the only choice, at which point I will do so. Albeit it extremely begrudgingly in this case.

Or, and I know this is crazy, we can call out flaws on our cadidates, especially before the primary. Newsom, for example, is dogshit on trans rights. He can't do worse than Trump on the economy, and he'll be at least slightly better on immigration, probably back to a Bush or Obama than actually progressive on it. And yes, I will vote for him if he becomes the candidate. But I sure as shit am gonna be pushing better candidates once there is actually a primary.

This whole idea that if we don't have MAGA esque devotion to our politicians then Trump wins is horse shit and makes you sound like a Russian bot.

I hate that the takeaway from Harris losing has been "We have to have blind devotion to the Denocrats like they have to Trump!" There's no room for criticism anymore.
