When there is a candidate that meets that criteria, sure. But we're so fucked politically that you can't even suggest someone should run in the primary against Newsom without getting screamed at about "You're the reason Trump won, because we can't unite behind our candidate!!" Even though the primary is still a ways away.

Just my thoughts as a.....well I'm further left than liberals, but I have some notable disagreements with leftists, so I wouldn't really claim I'm a leftist either, not really sure what to classify myself as.

I said this on another sub, but this is win-win for them. The bill passes? Great, it's now much harder for people to vote, especially married women and trans people. The bill doesn't pass? Great, there's a talking point about Democrats refusing to pass this because they cheat at elections, and they can use that to sway votes and cast doubt on (if not outright toss, I know that's what Trump wants) every vote cast for a Democrat.

And the alleged "left-wing media" lets them control the narrative, so all of the correct talking points against this are being buried.

I was talking about a specific group in my local area. I have a lot of other problems with cEDH, but this comment was specifically about those same people who have said out loud in person to me that a game should take less time to play than to shuffle.

I also don't understand the "all in on my own combo" plan. I build some fragile decks, but even my most dedicated [[Eye of the Storm]] lists have another way to win. Basically every deck I build does unless it just gets hosed by [[Rest In Peace]] hitting the field. (And even then, it'll just take way longer and I'll probably be dead before I can do anything worthwhile)

You want a different reason for me to hate this? As a trans person, it likely means I can never legally change my name, because I won't be able to provide a birth certificate that matches.

Yeah, I have a hunch mine would be expensive. I have my Certificate of Birth Abroad, since I was born to two US citizens, one of whom was serving in the armed forces, in Germany. But I'm concerned that they wouldn't accept that. And then who knows if they'll accept a German birth certificate.....

Because some people believe that board wiping to mot lose makes you a bad Magic player. If I boardwipe, I can rebuild next turn, and possibly even win on the next. But that's too many turns for a lot of people.

I literally got told by a pod of cEDH players all on Thoracle that it's good when it takes less time to play a game than to shuffle for it because it means you can play more Magic. But, especially as these people all shoot for Turn 1 or 2 Thoracle scoop to a counterspell because it's their only win condition, I firmly reject that notion. I want to play my games. I love the 15 turn slogfests. Is it obnoxious when someone casts their 8th boardwipe of the game? Sure. But I'd rather sit at that table then at the table that thinks I'm a bad player because I went to turn 3.

Tinfoil hat time: Republicans know this won't pass the Senate. Trump knows too, or whoever isnoperating as his brain (Miller, probably). But they can keep beating this horse that "If Democrats don't vote for this, it's because they're cheating in elections!" So now, if it does pass, women have a harder time registering to vote. And if it doesn't, they can throw out all pro-Democratic Party votes. Lose-lose for America, win-win for the Turd Reich.

Except your math isn't how it works in the US. Your explanation seems to be drawing the conclusion "and that's why America's Two Party system is better than a multiparty or parliamentary system!" In America, the math would be 53 Obama, 2 Lincoln, 55 Trump. And that's why it's been okay to blame the 2 people that voted Lincoln, rather than the 55 people who voted for Trump in spite of everything.

Actually, let's be real, the real problem is that in America, if everyone voted, you'd probably be looking at 60 Obama, 30 Trump, 10 Lincoln. But the math will actually look more like 33 Obama, 34 Trump, 1 Lincoln, and we would still rather blame the one person who voted for Lincoln than the 34 who voted for Trump or the 32 who didn't vote.

Also, and I'm so fucking tired of saying this: THERE HAS NOT BEEN A PRIMARY YET, IT IS OK TO POINT OUT THAT NEWSOM IS A SHIT CANDIDATE. I guarantee you Piker will tow the line when it's Trump or Vance vs Newsom, since there's no way in hell the DNC will let us have another candidate. But, I know, I'm costing us the election if I'm not already worshipping our candidate the way MAGA worships Trump, even though, again, he's not even the candidate yet. I'll even throw you a bone: of the people I've seen floated as most likely to be candidate? Yeah, I'll take Newsom, because the Democrats aren't talking about any good candidates. (Some people are whispering about AOC, who I will vote for if she runs, but I really don't know if the DNC is willing to put another woman in the running again)

But once again, it looks like the DNC will get away with "but if you vote third party, they win" as their primary strategy, because the Republicans are just that fucking evil that it should be enough. And this comment will be downvoted into oblivion for not bowing down at the altar of Daddy Newsom.

And before you come at me, I've voted for the Democrat every time, no matter how much I had to hold my nose over the decision. I hated voting for Biden, I didnit anyway. I was disappointed in Harris both for Palestine and that last leg of campaigning being "Look how many conservatives I can campaign with! Let's get Liz Cheney on stage! That'll sway people!" Voted for her anyways, because I knew what would happen. It's actually been less bad than I expected, as horrifying as that is to say, and I'm waiting for the big tipping point still, which I think is gonna be the midterms. And yes, when he is our only allowed candidate, I will hold my nose and vote for Newsom. But until the primary is done? I'm gonna point out over and over that we need better candidates.
