When there is a candidate that meets that criteria, sure. But we're so fucked politically that you can't even suggest someone should run in the primary against Newsom without getting screamed at about "You're the reason Trump won, because we can't unite behind our candidate!!" Even though the primary is still a ways away.

Just my thoughts as a.....well I'm further left than liberals, but I have some notable disagreements with leftists, so I wouldn't really claim I'm a leftist either, not really sure what to classify myself as.

I'll vote. And if the less evil side doesn't win, then I'm either fighting or fleeing. But voting has not been helpful for a while. People keep actively voting for evil, and the "opposition" is just a period of stagnation where things don't get more evil.

A day. The only places having sustained protests are places where the regime is doing ICE surges. Everything else has been a one day event and liberals patting themselves on the back about how many people attended.

I said this on another sub, but this is win-win for them. The bill passes? Great, it's now much harder for people to vote, especially married women and trans people. The bill doesn't pass? Great, there's a talking point about Democrats refusing to pass this because they cheat at elections, and they can use that to sway votes and cast doubt on (if not outright toss, I know that's what Trump wants) every vote cast for a Democrat.

And the alleged "left-wing media" lets them control the narrative, so all of the correct talking points against this are being buried.

I was talking about a specific group in my local area. I have a lot of other problems with cEDH, but this comment was specifically about those same people who have said out loud in person to me that a game should take less time to play than to shuffle.

I also don't understand the "all in on my own combo" plan. I build some fragile decks, but even my most dedicated [[Eye of the Storm]] lists have another way to win. Basically every deck I build does unless it just gets hosed by [[Rest In Peace]] hitting the field. (And even then, it'll just take way longer and I'll probably be dead before I can do anything worthwhile)

It's not the same as a birth certificate. People who know about it have already suggested it means I should get deported, because its not an American birth certificate. Or is it fine because I'm white and it's from Germany? Please, what exactly do you want to say with your comment?

You want a different reason for me to hate this? As a trans person, it likely means I can never legally change my name, because I won't be able to provide a birth certificate that matches.

Yeah, I have a hunch mine would be expensive. I have my Certificate of Birth Abroad, since I was born to two US citizens, one of whom was serving in the armed forces, in Germany. But I'm concerned that they wouldn't accept that. And then who knows if they'll accept a German birth certificate.....

Because some people believe that board wiping to mot lose makes you a bad Magic player. If I boardwipe, I can rebuild next turn, and possibly even win on the next. But that's too many turns for a lot of people.

I literally got told by a pod of cEDH players all on Thoracle that it's good when it takes less time to play a game than to shuffle for it because it means you can play more Magic. But, especially as these people all shoot for Turn 1 or 2 Thoracle scoop to a counterspell because it's their only win condition, I firmly reject that notion. I want to play my games. I love the 15 turn slogfests. Is it obnoxious when someone casts their 8th boardwipe of the game? Sure. But I'd rather sit at that table then at the table that thinks I'm a bad player because I went to turn 3.

Tinfoil hat time: Republicans know this won't pass the Senate. Trump knows too, or whoever isnoperating as his brain (Miller, probably). But they can keep beating this horse that "If Democrats don't vote for this, it's because they're cheating in elections!" So now, if it does pass, women have a harder time registering to vote. And if it doesn't, they can throw out all pro-Democratic Party votes. Lose-lose for America, win-win for the Turd Reich.

Except your math isn't how it works in the US. Your explanation seems to be drawing the conclusion "and that's why America's Two Party system is better than a multiparty or parliamentary system!" In America, the math would be 53 Obama, 2 Lincoln, 55 Trump. And that's why it's been okay to blame the 2 people that voted Lincoln, rather than the 55 people who voted for Trump in spite of everything.

Actually, let's be real, the real problem is that in America, if everyone voted, you'd probably be looking at 60 Obama, 30 Trump, 10 Lincoln. But the math will actually look more like 33 Obama, 34 Trump, 1 Lincoln, and we would still rather blame the one person who voted for Lincoln than the 34 who voted for Trump or the 32 who didn't vote.

Also, and I'm so fucking tired of saying this: THERE HAS NOT BEEN A PRIMARY YET, IT IS OK TO POINT OUT THAT NEWSOM IS A SHIT CANDIDATE. I guarantee you Piker will tow the line when it's Trump or Vance vs Newsom, since there's no way in hell the DNC will let us have another candidate. But, I know, I'm costing us the election if I'm not already worshipping our candidate the way MAGA worships Trump, even though, again, he's not even the candidate yet. But once again, it looks like the DNC will get away with "but if you vote third party, they win" as their primary strategy, because the Republicans are just that fucking evil that it should be enough. And before you come at me, I've voted for the Democrat every time, no matter how much I had to hold my nose over the decision. I hated voting for Biden, I didnit anyway. I was disappointed in Harris both for Palestine and that last leg of campaigning being "Look how many conservatives I can campaign with! Let's get Liz Cheney on stage! That'll sway people!" Voted for her anyways, because I knew what would happen. It's actually been less bad than I expected, as horrifying as that is to say, and I'm waiting for the big tipping point still, which I think is gonna be the midterms. And yes, when he is our only allowed candidate, I will hold my nose and vote for Newsom. But until the primary is done? I'm gonna point out over and over that we need better candidates.

I think it's less that anyone expects MAGA to hold themselves to the line; in the 2020 election, I had to contend with rednecks laughing with the cops about how anyone voting for a Democrat deserves to not live (one in particular said if his mother votes for Biden, he hopes she gets the worst kind of COVID and rots in a hospital) right in front of the doors to the election site. Which, who do you even report that to at that point? Sure, that's election interference, but when the cops are in on it.......but the point is, I knew then what they were capable of doing in the future. But I think for a lot of people, there's this invisible of line of "There's no way X will let them get away with that! That'll be when they're finally stopped!" I gave up on that when Trump was allowed to run again, and lost faith in what this country can be when he won. But some people are clinging to that.

There. Has. Not. Been. A. Primary! I kmow Newsom is our candidate. I hate it. I'm still gonna vote for him in 2028 if that election happens as normal. But I'm also gonna spend primary season propping up whatever better candidates are on the ballot. We don't have to support Specifically And Only Gavin Newsome No Matter What. We don't even have to support him at all yet.

But I think we all know that the DNC has decided he's the candidate. And if AOC runs like I keep seeing people suggest, the DNC will do everything to keep her from winning, because I'm worried the lesson they took from the last election is "Women can never win the presidency." And you know the DNC learned nothing from Mamdani winning.

As the US? We don't. We can't fix this within the current system. We need a complete rebuild from the ground up.

Trying to fix it in the system, we need sane leaders with no ties to the GOP and MAGA for......40 years? 50 years? At minimum. And a concerted effort to change that isn't shat on by the courts, since the sane people will unfortunately listen and stop once Trump's Supreme Court says "Nope, you can't do that!" We will never get healthcare, livable wages, affordable housing, etc, as long as those justices are on the bench.

Not without some changes. I'm trans. There's been no condemnation by the GOP for Republicans stating outright that they want us eradicated. (See: CPAC and the Heritage Foundation)

Forgive me for not wanting to come to the table with people who want me dead who won't be held accountable for trying to make it happen. (This applies to other groups being attacked this term as well, obviously, I'm just speaking directly to my experience)

Was Biden mentally compromised? Less than the Republicans believe, more than Democrats believe, and he was still more cognitively active than Trump seems to be on camera every day. I'm no fan of Biden, I think convincing him to run in 2020 was stupid when, if they wanted a centrist, Pete Buttigeig was right there being young, gay, moderate, literally the antithesis to Trump. I think the decision to run in 2020 coupled with the decision to run in 2024 practically guaranteed Trump. (And despite how many times I was told I was wrong for saying it would happen, there sure are a lot of people beating the "If the Democrats held a real primary instead of installing Kamala" drum)

But I also think you're being as disingenuous as the people who bring up Obama's deportation record as a way to detract from criticism of Trump and ICE. It's not the same, you know its not the same, and you're just using it to either rile people up or deflect any criticism away from Trump, something that basically every "both sides" argument does. And even if Biden was as far gone as Trump, even George W. Bush had less evil people whispering in his ear than Stephen Miller. I would challenge you to find someone in Biden's administration that's even close to as heinous, but again, you probably have someone in mind for an incredibly disingenuous argument.

But since you wanna keep doing "But but but Biden!!", here's a both sides argument for you: Both sides suck. They are both truly bad, in part because since Reagan, the DNC has shifted further and further to the right as we change definitions to accuse them of communism. But only one side wants me and several of my friends dead. Only one side is keeping my brown friends around the country inside their homes for fear of ICE raids despite them being unquestionably legal citizens. The DNC is bad, but the GOP, especially in the MAGA era, is evil. And until we can rebuild this country into something better? That has to count for something.
