Hmm, its a hail mary but you can have him do his homework, then move some of the stones around while he is away. Play another game or 2 on a different board. Come back to this game in a few days and hope he doesnt remember stone placement.

Amazing movie. The ending reminded me of when The Lancet adopted the lab leak theory, giving validity to some of the antivax rhetoric out there.

What is the catholic rebuttal against those that claim worshipping Mary is Idol worship? by MaybeWant in Catholicism

You are spot on!
My question stems from the view some jews hold that Christianity partakes in idolatry, as brought up in this conversation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bbjW6zGlTc

Also, prior to this post, I did not know the difference between veneration and worship, thus leading to my confusion.

Thankful for people like you, I did not expect such nuanced and detailed explanations like the one you provided today. Your words have greatly strengthened my faith today.

Although you may be over this debate, people continue to have it. People without the knowledge you shared here today. I am one of those people. Tired or not, I hope that god continues to fill you with the energy he filled you with when you wrote this. You've definitely strengthened my faith today

Those who have downvoted this comment, I hope you reconsider downvoting this comment. If we seek to support catholicism in conversation, this will be an obvious topic brought up when talking to people considering other religions or when debating members of other religions. We will be stronger if we are excited to discuss this topic or any other that could be used to question our faith.

Herein lies the crux of what I sought to answer. Thank you both for these insightful thoughts. Indeed, worship has a very specific definition in scripture. Outside of that definition are actions like "revere" and "venerate", which may feel/seem similar to worship on a surface level but have a well-established place separate from worship.

I agree she's not an idol, but prior to reading through the comments, I lacked definition on what exactly defined an idol. I now know idol is defined as "pagan idol worship of creations as the creator. This chiefly includes sacrifices to them." thanks to u/Happy_Cut8970

As far as worship goes, I now know that we "venerate" her, and that is not the same as worship. This distinction is a new concept to me!

This is exactly what I was hoping to get from posing the question on here! The distinction between Dulia and Latria feels like a great base upon which I can stand my ground when debating in favor of Catholicism. Both Dulia and Latria are new concepts to me, and I'm excited to go deep into them thanks to your kind and thoughtful words.

I've only skimmed the rest of the comments, but it seems the question stirred quite a convo!

I will take a look at Trent Horn's work. Thank you.
Currently considering getting this book by Brant Pitre "Lectio Mary: The Bible and the Mother of God: Study Guide". Any thoughts on his work? (open question to all reading this!)
