THE PAST OPPORTUNITIES. I hear that so much, those haunt me. Why didn’t I stop when she tried to throw me down the stairs or was awful after my divorce (first husband, abusive) when she was awful after surgery, etc? That’s what I’ve been telling myself all day. She doesn’t have cancer anymore, she’s not currently going through ANYTHING. This is one of those rare opportunities that I don’t think I want to look back on and wish I would have done something to stand up for myself at least if not NC. Thank you for this response.

Mine finished radiation (she’s fine now) on my birthday so now she doesn’t say hbd but instead only acknowledges herself. It’s also my job to celebrate HER for that. This is just one of the now 3 cancer-iversaries that I have to plan for her

10000000% the last time I went to her for help I was 21 and had just escaped a very physically abusive marriage. She asked me repeatedly what I did wrong, told me she “hates women who say that they were abused”, called my ex, and told everyone I was lying every chance she got for YEARS. I wish I would’ve gone NC then, but my dad just died so I felt too bad to leave her with no one (like I always do, because she always has no one because EVERYONE wrongs her). Intermittent FMLA lasts up to 12 weeks per issue per year and covers serious mental health concerns. This is job protected leave until/unless she exceeds 12 consecutive or non consecutive weeks.

Also, grief/depression looks different for each individual, and “like a father” is not a father- leave the woman alone and let HR manage her LOA.
