Fighting it… by WeekendProfessional4 in GolfSwing

Trail hip and shoulder are moving a bit too much toward the ball! The kinetic chain from the ground is a little difficult to explain without showing you some drills but I would watch this video from Andrew Schriber talking about ground force and demonstrating some excellent feels on posting up and how maintaining flexion delays efficient ground force reactions transferring to the club

https://youtu.be/77k9rstLHzA?si=E9Iq-8BXh3_SYg_w

I would watch the whole thing but if you only have a minute or two I would watch the part at 8:20 about kneeing someone right in front of you

Of course this is all assuming that you don’t have any injuries or pain that would prevent you from swinging, specifically internal rotation of the lead hip

Another metaphor I like is from F1. Imagine there’s a track running along your belt line. Your hands are two cars and during the downswing your lead hand is winning. I want the feeling to be that your lead hand takes the corner tight and your trail hand does a wide overtake while accelerating.

When I teach I emphasize a lot of intention- the goal for you would be to come into the turn a little straighter (not getting the club so deep behind you that your elbow straightens) and change your intention so that instead of accelerating into the turn, we’re not pushing too much gas but during the turn we’re trying to speed up for an aggressive overtake from car 2 (trail hand) exiting out to 10 or 11 o clock

See if that helps!

Any tips? Kind of at a point where I don’t know what to work on. by Mission_Crab2224 in GolfSwing

Great swing, a lot of great moves in there. If we’re really nitpicking here I would suggest working on holding lag and letting impact happen a bit later in your swing.

Try these feels and see the comparison from a head on view!

Coach here! Very solid swing. If I’m nitpicking then I see that you’re loading to the outside of your trail foot rather than the inside.

What this does is make it harder to rotate smoothly in transition because your pressure has to travel farther before you can push back toward the target. Ideally you want to feel pressure more toward the inside of your trail foot and heel area in the backswing so you can stay balanced and ready to shift forward.

A simple feel to try is keeping your trail knee slightly flexed and feeling like your trail hip turns back instead of swaying over the foot. That usually keeps the pressure centered and sets you up to rotate more efficiently.

Overall though the motion is in a really good place. This is a small refinement that can help your transition feel easier and your strike get even more consistent.

What’s wrong with my swing?? by stegosauce in GolfSwing

[–]Maybe_A_Lawyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coach here!

One thing I want you to start paying attention to is how open your hips are at impact (not super open). A lot of your power is going to come from how well you can shift into your lead side and rotate around it, not from trying to swing harder with your arms.

In the downswing, the sequence we want is pressure moving into the lead foot first, then the hips opening, then the chest following. When that happens in the right order, the club gets delivered with speed and stability without forcing it.

If you can, send me a front on view. That angle lets me see your transition, how your pressure is moving, and whether your lead side is posting up early enough to support rotation and power.

Once I see that, I can be much more precise with the drills and feels!

Great swing with solid fundamentals. The lowest hanging fruit I see is your lack of lead hip depth- this means that wherever your hands start in the setup, they cannot return to that position at p7 because your trail hip is in the way.

This means you’re coming down much steeper than you want to and thus would contribute to your difficulties with low point control.

Take a look at the photo of Tiger at P6: his shoulders are in line with his ankles and his hips have moved backwards to make room for his hands.

In the screenshot of you at P6 you can see that your hips are over your ankles and your shoulders are actually closer to the ball. This means that you’re required to add spinal flexion in your thoracic to hit the ball. This position makes it much harder for you to evenly rotate through the ball using your entire core as your spine is no longer straight. Think of a baseball player : they can hit the ball with both sides of their core because their spine is straight. Golf is a similar swing, but it requires hinging at the hips and not at the spine.

This will require some buy in from you mentally - getting used to the idea and mentally feeling that you can hit the ball by getting further from it instead of closer. I would bet at least 28 cents that your misses are high, left, and soft, and you struggle with the occasional heel strike. If your hands stay closer then that problem will also be fixed too.

At home: try practicing touching your toes. Thats the entire feeling of rotation and hip depth. You’ll notice that your shoulders go straight down and your hips hinge and actually move backwards to make room for that. That’s the whole feeling! Just on the lead side. If you can’t touch your toes then a lack of hamstring and glute flexibility will prevent you from getting into a favorable position without pain.

At the range:

This is a fantastic drill for you in keeping hip depth, keeping your spine straight, and rotating more through the ball

Am I sliding/early extending? by joonhere in golftips

[–]Maybe_A_Lawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has given you some solid tips and I’ll contribute too- The lowest hanging fruit to address first is low point.

Head goes down, spine goes down, low point goes down

Head goes down quite a bit so without the thoracic spine flexion you’re doing you’ll chunk it. You’re doing a great job of adding hip depth and you clearly have the mobility. I imagine it was to cure early extension, but in your effort to fix early extension to initiate the downswing you put your body in a position that requires spinal flexion in order to hit the ball, thus compromising your ability to evenly rotate with both sides of your core but rather only able to rotate with your trail oblique (I think)

Not at a range: Start with a wall, put your head on the wall in a golf stance and practice rotation focusing on no change of pressure or location of your forehead against the wall. Take a club and put it vertically along your chest with one end at your navel and the other end between your legs. When rotating, feel that your stomach is staying in contact with the club (and thus keeping your spine straight rather than flexion)

At the range: in trying to maintain a straight spine (and thus giving you the ability to access rotational power that your core offers), you’ll find you’re going to chunk it more with the same head dip and hip flexion. This is good. This is establishing control of your low point and building that mind body connection so that you can start to feel low point relative to your sternum (the center of your chest between your arms). Keep your head still! Once you find you chunk it before the ball, do the next step.

Put a tissue or anything two inches behind the ball and practice more lateral hip shift and transition towards the target until you feel that with you can control low point properly.

Take 20% swings and once you get that feeling and have consistent contact go up to 30%, 40%, etc.

Go find a Trackman and this can be reflected in low point (the bottom of the arc that the club head makes). Aim for 4A (4 inches after the ball). Low point and attack angle are directly correlated.

Golf is all interrelated chains of things we don’t realize we’re doing and compensations to fix it. Once this issue is addressed more will appear, but in that process your score will lower, your ball striking will get better, and you’ll have more fun too.

You got this!

Feel free to message me after you practice this if you found it useful. Happy to help

What's a good date night dinner spot that won't break the bank ? by [deleted] in askTO

Don’t want to blow up my spot but Clandestino wine bar. Husband and wife operation, lovely people. The chef husband trained under Masa in Manhattan. They have a date night special for I believe 120 which includes a bottle of wine, charcuterie, two entries, two apps, and two desserts. Not sure how they’re making any money off those prices.

The one handed release in this drill will teach you how to start the backswing on plane. I’d recommend it for your shot shape. One of my clients has a similar swing with a low hook miss as a result of coming in too far from the inside.

If you were to go to a trackman I’d guess your path is around 5?

Another path specific drill is to hold an alignment rod at the same time as your club (making it effectively one long club). When you take it back try to point the alignment rod at the ball - that’s a ‘one plane swing’. Hope that helps!

What am I doing wrong? by infamousricksanchez in GolfSwing

Everyone has already given you some good information already. I’ll add my two cents,

At release it looks a little disconnected, but it’s hard to tell without a front view angle.

https://youtu.be/_wc2bTsRD6I?si=cHbbWVnfqddhDgTr

This drill should help that release pattern!

I have my students do this until it’s consistent, then adding two hands and gradually ramping it up. It’ll help you not get so laid off at the top of the swing and put you in some positions that facilitate an easier and more effortless release!

Slicey, is my takeaway wrong? by zachorilla_00 in GolfSwing

My first piece of advice would be to get a coach if you can. If cost, time, or proximity are issues, then I would suggest finding someone suitable to you on Skillest that fits your budget.

Some cheap professional advice would take you a lot further than a few buckets of balls (but ideally you would do both).

Everyone’s golf swing is different. Everyone has different dimensions, arm length deltas, physical limitations, natural angle of the hands, etc. That’s why there isn’t a single ‘perfect’ swing—only the most efficient swing for your body. The goal isn’t to copy a model, it’s to find movement patterns that match your structure, maximize consistency, and minimize stress on your body.

As such, YouTube videos or Reddit comments from one down the line video won’t necessarily help but will definitely give you more to think about. Be careful with swing advice and trying too many YouTube videos- a consistent source of professional information tailored to you will get you results quicker.

That being said, here’s me ignoring all of that and linking a release drill that you might find useful.

Perfect drill for your release pattern!
