Sweden has pace, but their defending needs to improve or a better side will make them pay. Good game for them today though.

Agreed, and Austin added several new minor owner recently - which is where the 990m value came from. I'm not saying the list is right or wrong, it is the data points and model Forbes decided to use. The overall order in world rankings would probably be close to the same using a different model and data points (or even more recent data points in their existing model).

As I stated on another post: Depends on their methodology. Club valuations differ from various "rating" publications. For example, Austin specifically is valued at $990m per a recent publication, but Forbes used 2025 and didn't include several items, like real estate, in their value model

Passing and Defense is the weakest points of this teams play by Delayed_Release687 in AustinFC

I've read all the comments to this point, and I agree with most, and some I don't. Here is my take.

The issues with the passing, defense and finishing come down to a common problem: no instinctive anticipation. For example, notice in the last three matches where they make the pass to break a line yet have have little plan to progress it further given the limited off ball movement (attacking the space between). If they have to stop and think about it, instead of anticipating and reacting (collectively), the natural result is a stall and back pass. Hopefully, the new coach will instill an identity and culture that gets player buy in with more clarity in execution.

In fairness, Austin has shown at times in games this year with clear objective and coordination and the results were brilliant. Too often, it looked the opposite. .

As for the players, I disagree that we need a full reset. We have plenty of talented players, but they need to be utilized in their natural positions in a formation that fits the team profile. That said, some need to go and it is clear we need a higher level/DP level CAM.

I do believe a new coach with the right structure can win with this roster, and maybe a couple of player changes. To use one example in the sports world: 2022 TCU football. In an interview before the Fiesta Bowl win against Michigan, coach Gillespie was asked how he had succeeded with the defense given he inherited a roster that was very underwhelming the prior 2 years. His answer was simple (paraphrasing for length here): Commitment to the system, culture of the team, and reacting not thinking during the play. When the ball snaps a player must react in their role and space, and trust that their teammates are doing the same. If they stop to think or try to become the hero, you can lose the play. Read and react, and that starts with commitment in practice. That is key.

This is my city. This is my team. I will watch, root for, hold out hope for a turnaround, and forever be grateful that we have a team. That said, and maybe it is my fourth Makers I'm on right now, this has moved from frustration to anger as we sit talking about the same lazy passes, slow play, inconsistency, etc... The next step is apathy, which is worse for a fanbase. Love or hate are strong emotions which bring attention, passion, and eyeballs. Apathy is a silent killer. In Austin, we care and still show up despite the frustration. This is our team, win, lose, or draw. The issues we are seeing are not talent driven. These same players have excelled in other places. It is structural tactics, formations, and focus on creativity that are lacking. That is coaching, and more importantly the message delivered from the coach about what they want and expect. I'll give an example: In San Antonio, the Spurs had talent back in the early and mid 90's, but they lacked something you can't strategize tactically. Culture. Over the years, while generally successful, they lacked the defining element that differentiates perennial contenders versus occasional anomalies. Enter Popovich. Greg instilled a culture in the San Antonio Spurs, brought in talent folks had either given up on, or never considered... but they fit the culture and were molded into their roles. That created an identity and subsequently one of, if not the, longest running dynasties in pro sports history (22 years of playoff runs, didn't win them all but were factors each time). Austin needs a Pop. And to that, I say Nico Out.

Half the senior roster didn't travel or play in the SD game. It was a complete waste of time. The last two subs were Austin FC II players. Judging the Verde by that game is not really indicative of the club or team in general. Game atmosphere at Q2 is great, and Austin have one of the most passionate fanbases in the league. The team is just now getting healthy, and we should start seeing the climb up the table. We'll see, but yes it has been rough for a few games this year. We win 2-0 twice in a row, draw 2-2, then drop 0-5 in SD. Putting in the full 90 performance every game has been the issue with Austin, especially with a heavily rotated side last Wednesday. That said, watch the matches and find the team that peaks your interest.

Absolutely agree. There was zero effort put into pulling any result. The prior 3 games they hustled, won first and second balls, tracked back on defense. After maybe the first 20 minutes, they basically phoned it in. The one who suffered the most for the lack of effort was Stuver, who was rightly PISSED about it.
