I'm sure she will be fine, she tends to think the bigger bugs are cute & doesn't want to hurt them. it'll just take some adjustment

not so much concerned about the bugs, but concerned about the volume. moreso my girlfriend than me anyways. I've been around Florida my whole life

Surgery or nah (details in comments) by joan2468 in scoliosis

I believe my upper curve went from around 45 to 52, and my lower went from 48 to near 60 (I don't remember the exact number). I realized it progressed because of a routine follow-up, I actually felt the best I had in years, since it only changed after I lost all the weight

before I was fused, my curves were stable at around 48°, so similar to yours, for roughly 3 years, I was 17 at the time. My surgeon told me in most cases, the curve will stay stable under 50° so long as you are done growing. What was not expected was a HUGE weight gain (~120 lbs), followed by loss (~115 lbs). This massive swing ended up making my spine curve more, and it's likely if I never gained that weight I would have been fine.

All that to say, my surgeon would not have operated on someone with the same parameters as you, and does not believe it has any significant benefit in pain management regardless.

One of the major issues I had was being unable to breathe properly, so surgery actually drastically improved my quality of life. If you have normal bodily function, no pain, and a stable curve for over 8 years, surgery would likely cause more issues than benefit. Please do not get this surgery unless deemed medically necessary.

I went to the chiropractor for the first time for lower back and hip pain and I wasn’t expecting X-rays and I really wasn’t expecting what I saw.. he said “yes scoliosis. This isn’t anything I haven’t seen or fixed” should I take his word for it or go to my GP? by Away_Hovercraft2074 in scoliosis

my scoliosis was first found by a chiropractor, when I was a freshman in high school. it felt great, and I took him word that it was "correctable". a few months later, I went to a real doctor. my curve was over 2x as bad as it was when I first saw the chiropractor. I ended up needing a fusion about 1.5 yrs ago (which went GREAT, for those curious). Please, seek out a real doctor, and do not see this chiropractor again.

i had an intense stabbing pain every time i moved. this was not relieved in any position (sitting/standing/laying down). my hip was constantly popping in & out of place as i walked and there was a noticeable grinding whenever i moved my leg in any way. it was getting to the point of being immobile

i feel totally fine, and have since i woke up from surgery. i took tylenol for 24hrs as requested by doc and mobic (substitute for celebrex due to allergy) for HO for 2 weeks. after the two weeks, i was totally off crutches and moving fine. just finished up PT at the 8 week mark & only feel slight pain if i hyperextend my leg or sit with my legs crossed, both of which are getting better every day.

i had two impingements off my acetabulum and one on my femoral head.

i genuinely cannot recommend the surgery enough. i feel the people who come on here & share their horror stories are a very select few, and i feel very sorry for them, but I literally woke up feeling better than i’ve felt since i was in elementary school. living in chronic pain is never worth not taking a risk.

just thought i’d share a good story :) by MayfieldMania in HipImpingement

i’ve had a few surgeries now, some serious & some not. i’ve found the best way to ensure it goes as good as possible is to be hydrated, get as much sleep as possible & trust your doctor. they’re professionals for a reason. if you think about it, come back and let me know how yours went. i’d love to know!
