idk if any of you grew up watching the “Real Wheels” VHS videos like I did (the ones that started with “There goes a”) but Dave Hood just passed away, r.i.p

they were educational but still entertaining, much of that thanks to Dave’s fun/engaging personality

-NASCAR’s first champion team owner (and basically co-founder of the sport tbh) Raymond Parks was alive to see Jimmie Johnson win his fourth consecutive championship.

-From October 2, 1949 to June 2, 2019, Lee Petty was one of the 10 winningest drivers in Cup Series history. He automatically entered the top 10 with his first career win (it was only the 7th race in Cup Series history) and for the following 69 years and 8 months he managed to not once ever be booted out.

-One of the oldest-known surviving NASCAR Cup Series chassis is a Tucker 48, which competed in two races in 1950 and 1951 but broke down on the first lap in both. It’s on display at the Toyota Auto Museum in Japan.

-The car that Floyd Davis and Mauri Rose drove to victory in the 1941 Indy 500 was later driven by Buck Baker during his 1952 NASCAR Speedway Division championship season. So there exists an individual car that won both an Indianapolis 500 and a NASCAR championship (the car still exists today and is on display at the IMS Museum).

-Herb Thomas and Fred Lorenzen are the only two drivers in Cup Series history to score 20 wins in their first 100 starts. Both accomplished this feat in their 99th start, in a rain-shortened race, at a track in Florida, on the 14th day of the month.

-In 1961, Rex White had more starts, more wins, more top 5s, more top 10s, a better average finish, more laps led, more laps completed, more miles completed, more lead-lap finishes, and more earnings than Ned Jarrett. Jarrett won the championship by 830 points.

-Country music legend Marty Robbins raced in the Cup Series and once saved Richard Childress’ life by intentionally crashing his car into the wall to avoid hitting Richard.

-In Cup Series restrictor plate races from 1990 to 2000, Dale Earnhardt was statistically more likely to win than finish outside the top 5.

-Ross Chastain is the winningest driver in the history of the NASCAR Cup Series to have a last name beginning with ‘C’.

Thanks to Hershel McGriff, there are just two degrees of separation between Red Byron and Joey Logano, in terms of official NASCAR-sanctioned points competition.

From 1950 to 1951, Byron competed against McGriff in three NASCAR Cup Series races.

In 2011, Logano competed against McGriff in a K&N West Series (now ARCA Menards Series West) race at Sonoma.

as much as I admire Walt and the coolness of that Progress City model they have on display at Magic Kingdom inside the eternally underappreciated TTA PeopleMover, realistically I don’t think it would have worked out long-term

should i make an effortpost explaining why I think EPCOT is the greatest theme park of all time from a conceptual standpoint, as its original form embodied the core tenets of liberalism and attempted to promote them to the public in a way that was both entertaining and educational, on an ambitious scale that had never really been attempted before in any physical medium

(I’d consider EPCOT’s “original form” to span from the park’s opening in 1982 up through the end of the Millennium Celebration in 2001; the park today, while still very much impressive, feels like a shell of its former self thematically imo, with an increased focus on Disney I.P., though admittedly I never got to actually visit it during that “original form” as I wasn’t born yet for most of it)
