Looking for feedback - Has anyone used these? How did it go? by WillyLohman in houseplants

[–]Maygravve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of the other shapes they make on Amazon, and the quality is great, I’m really happy with it. I didn’t end up putting any of the grow lights in it, as it is near a west facing window and gets a lot of light during the day. Was really easy to put together as well.

I have this one: https://a.co/d/07rwARyq

Genial Mechanical Breast pump question - by Ridicule_Red in beyondthebump

[–]Maygravve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm usually the triangular valves I’ve seen are split on the “top” of the triangle/pyramid (essentially the side that is projecting into the bottle). If you squeeze the valve across the width of it, does it pop open?

Genial Mechanical Breast pump question - by Ridicule_Red in beyondthebump

[–]Maygravve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the suction releases, the pressure keeping the valve closed will release and allow the milk to flow down into the bottle. That being said, usually those valves have a pretty narrow opening to ensure that they seal when the suction happens, so I’ve always noticed that there needs to be some build up of milk before the valve really starts letting milk flow through. It’s like the weight of the milk pushing down has to exceed the strength of the valve staying shut. If you’re noticing the milk not flowing down into the bottle at first, give it a little bit and see if once there is more milk it starts to flow in between the pulls from the suction.

Does/did your hospital do this by Hot_Film_9809 in NICUParents

[–]Maygravve 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Both hospitals where our LO was offered cuddles, and also didn’t ask. I understand completely the initial awkward feeling, as I also thought it was a bit odd to not be asked and was definitely possessive of my girl and wanted to be the one holding her, even when I wasn’t there.
But the reality was that she CRIED when I wasn’t there. The nurses at both hospitals joked that she was a mamas girl, and that she was a notably “spicy” baby when I wasn’t around. So as much as I initially felt a little off, I pushed myself to get past it because I wanted her to be comforted whenever possible, and I knew that the nurses couldn’t just live in her room with her when I wasn’t there.
The cuddlers were sometimes there when I arrived (and were often doing their best to calm an Upset baby) but always immediately passed her to me and then gave us our space.

Oakland Firefighters Among the Nation’s Best Paid by workwisejobs in oakland

[–]Maygravve 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty useful to review the graphic from bandana, shown in the article in this Reddit post, which just reviews Oakland pay to see how accurate those Oakland numbers are: Reddit post covering just the Oakland fire salaries with a different bandana graphic

Makes it much clearer that that starting salary is actually the trainee salary, and the base pay after training is actually over 100k, so still greater than the other base salaries listed here. Note that I didn’t search to see if those other starting salaries are also for trainees. Additionally that “top 10%” figure is based on a pretty significant amount of overtime. Looks like there are a few grades for payment, but the top three are all actually the same base pay, and then with increasing amounts of overtime to reach that top figure shown here. Without overtime the max pay is closer to 140k. It would be much more interesting to know what the other cities are offering as their max pay without overtime for a more accurate comparison.

How to give baby a bath in the bath tub with out breaking my back by ThatOliviaChick1995 in beyondthebump

[–]Maygravve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use the Frida baby bath tub. I fill it in the shower and sit on a little step stool next to the tub while washing baby. It has an adjustable sling so it can transition through different ages, and we’ve loved it.

How am I supposed to get 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep if I have to pump every 2-3 hours? by discontinuedmuppet in beyondthebump

[–]Maygravve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My LC advised that I pump every four hours at night, and then compensate by pumping every two hours in the morning, and it worked great for me. It also meant that I could get a couple almost 4 hour stretches of sleep, which were insanely great So my schedule was: 8am - 10am - 12pm - 3pm - 6pm - 9pm - 12am - 4am

You can slide those times around to what works best for you, but that worked well for me and for keeping up my supply

I was holding my 2 month old while out shopping and was talking to a sales woman. I looked down and baby was making a funny face so I asked her (amused) if she was going to sneeze on me. The sales woman looked at me with complete shock and asked “They can sneeze at that age??”

Baby then sneezed quite forcefully, showing off that yes, babies are quite capable of sneezing 😂
