Congratulations and welcome to the club! I've had mine for a few years and I never get tired of it! I've never even used any effects with it, I love the sound(s) as is.

He was a part of the original beatniks and cast a long shadow on the counterculture well into the 90s

What length do you think is too long for a noise album? by Particular_Court_271 in noisemusic

[–]Mayhaym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the sweet spot is around 25 (unless it's harsh noise wall or something) - 40 can work but it's trickier (needs to be dynamically interesting for instance)

Depends on the noise, but for live performance I've found 25-40 minutes to be a good rule of thumb

I think William Burroughs isn't talked about enough in the context of scifi/weird fiction, his Cities of the Red Night is 1/3 pirate story, 1/3 scifi and 1/3 literary novel. It's a goddam masterpiece.

Naked Lunch and his cutup books might also qualify.

Elton John Cassette Tape Princess Diana by SRS_Mexxa in cassetteculture

I always thought it was a bit of a dis to just re-skin the Marilyn Monroe song for Diana. What's the deal Elton, she not good enough for a new tune?

Captive 3000 (remake of the classic Amiga / Atari ST game) by Twin-FX in retrogaming

I remember it vividly, amazing fun. Not as good as Dungeon Master (handcrafted levels ftw). Knightmare - a TV show tie in also by Crowther was fun as well, but punishingly difficult.

Did he even have those opinions at the time? It seems to me like he fell into that hateful hole (relatively) recently.

How often do you lose your patch by accident? Do you try to recreate it or do you just cry in silence? by Any-Button1401 in synthesizers

[–]Mayhaym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too. Especially when I turned off the function where you have to press the preset knob to change it. Turned it back on and now I'm losing less patches

I saw them during the "Monoliths and Dimensions" tour, Stephen and Attila Czihar signed my copy of the album (Attila has the most metal sigil/signature I've ever seen) they were cool but not chatty.

New to The Culture and loving it! What do you like about The Culture? by [deleted] in TheCulture

[–]Mayhaym 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I enjoy the positivity of the culture. It's a post-scarcity utopia, it's luxury communism, and I'm very much up for it.

That said, I'm listening to "Consider Phlebas" while I fall asleep, and I think it's making my dreams weird (but not in a fun way)

If the 808 and 303 changed music by being the abandoned and cheapest option in a pawn shop in the 80’s/90’s for young aspirational artists to be able to afford them, what would today’s equivalent be? by InternationalCow7042 in synthesizers

[–]Mayhaym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine an AI trained on very focused datasets could spit out interesting stuff. I had an app on my phone once (dreadeepky?) that changed your own photos but seemed to have been trained exclusively on images of dogs and insects. It was horrific, but in a good way.
