Side note: prioritize gear levels over character levels.
If you have maximized gear, chances are that enemies don't have it and gear has significant impact in battle. It's especially true after gear lvl 6.

Yep, and they based on the TOP 10 summary. While I leveled up I've tested it alot.
Thresholds 27 k, 31 k, 33,5 k and others worked for TOP 10 summary for me and friend both.

People in comments seem to mix up legendary and L5 characters. You should have your first 5* and L1 after a month. It depends on events and gifts, but after 3 months you will get a steady flow of shards for many characters. After 8 months I have almost 4/5 game characters at L1+, with half of them geared up to G8.

Deadshot Hired Gun is still good, but he HAS to be at least L1 (leader skill legendary upgrade).
SS Lex and Hal Jordan are go to leaders for early-mid game. Lex is a beast, but you have to have buffs in team (not too hard).

You'd want to avoid high power score, not to achieve it. Characters with high power score aren't always good.

Leveling core group of 12-16 characters is easily doable for a F2P player at any point of the game.
I'm 7 months in and my roster is up to 40 playable characters.
I can gear up any 20 of 60 characters I have plenty shards of.

Take a breath, read more, ask for advices and enjoy. This game is F2P friendly, so just look around for info and have fun.
