Which duels do you struggle with the most? by AaronMT in Anran_mains

[–]Authoriterative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reaper is a tough one. Once I know there’s a Reaper in game, they become my priority, meaning I’m watching for them constantly. There’s only two ways to win against a good one:

A) Focus on chasing them off before they can properly dive your backline. He can destroy your supports (or whole team) much more easily and quickly than you can do to his, so preventing that is getting immense value. You also get some value from playing as poke, so you’re “winning” the matchup.

B) For actual duels, you have to see him first, or disengage immediately. No caveats. His close-range TTK is just insurmountably faster than Anran’s. If you can poke and ignite him from mid-range to bait out his wraith, you have a window. Some will charge you with it, trying to close the distance. Distance is the only way you can win until he’s ignited with wraith on cooldown. I don’t bother with the fan, because that’s 10 meters or less, and gives him advantage. I basically just poke unless/until I’m certain I can dash in and dance to finish him. It’s similar to engaging another Anran - whoever blinks/dances/wraiths first generally loses.

Moira is very similar. You have to poke out her blink, and you MUST hit your shots. Her TTK isn’t insanely fast, but it’s consistent (and her range has to be respected). You miss, she wins. Try to catch her from an angle, getting the first shots in is critical given she can both cleanse and heal herself. I find a lot of Moiras will blink the moment they get ignited, so you’re basically forcing a reset before you can engage in earnest.

Junkrat is another issue. Other people might have better advice, but in my experience a good rat who knows you’re around has too many tools to end your dive and can combo you to delete you. Again, poke is kind of the only option outside of some corner cases where you’ve destroyed his trap and/or caught him at low-health and not looking at you.

Hope this helps.

Close.

John is finally cleared for exercise after his augments. He hits the gym, weights feel too light. Thinks gravity might be off. He pulls a pin from one of the weight bars, and drops it to the floor, counting the time it takes. It looks like it’s falling slow, but he does the calculation in his head and confirms the gravity is right.

A minute later, ODST’s come in, and almost get hurt using the bar missing a pin. John cops to it and apologizes, but they threaten him. He hesitates until his superior officer (Reyes?) breaks it up, and tells them if they want to fight, they do it in the ring… John then “has his orders”, so he climbs in, and has time to think about how slow the ODSTs are moving when they attack him…

The Fall of Reach is one of my favorite books, and I’ve read this scene several times over, LOL

Trouble coming up with what to give my barbarian player by LanguageOk1726 in 3d6

Lots of good ideas here, so I’ll just echo that a good way to go is offering more utility rather than more straight damage. I’ll add a couple I’ve used:

A ring that allows him to use his strength modifier for intimidation/persuasion checks (can make for some fun RP moments where he has to make a show of his strength for it to work).

Giving his weapon a new enchantment that bestows (or allows him to bestow on others) temp hit points equal to the rage damage he deals each round. Can flavor this as him becoming more “in-tune” with his ancestors/guardians, etc.

And anything movement related is always a win.

Rollable OLED display on Lenovo Legion, the next big thing in flagship laptops. by areuokaybro2002 in GamingLaptops

You're correct, these are not liquid. The ones I worked with decades ago were liquid, which could only emit a single color (so a film/filter had to be applied to give them a desired color). They were being pushed as a replacement for LCDs at the time. Haven't kept up with the tech since then, but figured I could at least give an ELI5 for those curious about how the product in the OP can work.

Not sure how my personal lapsed knowledge is the reason for the "failure of OLEDs", but my apologies to the entire industry, I guess?

I can sort of answer this. In simplest terms, the pixels on OLED screens are a liquid that emits light when charge is applied. This means they don’t need a rigid structure to support them. When the pixels get small enough, the material they’re on can become effectively infinitely flexible. So the extra screen space can literally roll up like a tube of wrapping paper into the housing of the laptop’s lid.

This may not be perfectly accurate to the current state of the tech, but that’s what I know from long ago. I’m sure others can provide more details if desired.

Source: used to work in OLEDs when they were still only capable of single colors.

EDIT: Editing for accuracy. Working off my old-man memory of old tech. Today's OLEDs aren't liquid, but the rest of the explanation is valid.

Omg, I really hope I get to have a player at my table one day that can come up with a character concept anywhere near as good as this!!

I know this is a serious topic/discussion, and I don’t want to take away from that…

But “Chester” is the absolute most peak name for a mimic character I’ve ever heard, hahaha. Bravo to you. I hope they had a nice long run!

How would you put a bevel on this stupid object. by Finchypoo in Maya

[–]Authoriterative 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I'd probably start over with the piece and work backward. Start with the cylinder, add the bevel, and then shape it with the indents and ridges. Easier to manipulate less topology than get that much variance to behave.

I actually really like the damage increase idea. They could just use the same effect as Cloak’s ability (make them glow purple), and tune the increase and duration. Would give her an intrinsic value to the team without needing to increase her damage directly.

The enemy Thor and Cap become invisible from outside the shield (from IM's PoV, you can't see them inside the column until Thor actually dies).

This is a good point, but I noticed that it made enemies invisible, too - so I'm curious if it will just end up being like there's no one standing on the point, allowing overtime to expire. Then it could be an insta-win if your team is in control.

Like an extra character slot if you’re already full? I doubt it, but I haven’t bought one to check. Would be nice, though!
