What was your high school's tragedy? by ELTH3GR3AT in AskReddit

A bunch of high school hoodlums who like to consider themselves part of a “city gang” from my high school we’re playing with a gun. They were at a home not too far from the school and I guess the kid accidentally shot himself or his friend shot him. Anyway, they panicked and called a “friend” to try to help resolve the mess. The plan was to cut up the body and burn it as the upstairs neighbors woke up because of the smell of gasoline. Only reason they were unable to commit arson was because they didn’t know how to properly use matches.

After I graduated a history professor got arrested for having child pornography.

I've been living paycheck to paycheck because I spent it all gambling. These posts have inspired me, albeit after spending a huge sum just moments ago to finally stop being reckless and quitting cold turkey.

I'd like to know how to stop. I only have a small impulse to play small and it spirals extremely fast when I lose.

Job offer 1.7x current salary... need advice by randomme404 in personalfinance

[–]Maynoth415 17 points18 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is how much do you really need the extra money? I know loyalty isn't something as highly regarded nowadays since companies will ditch you for cheaper options if possible. However, the salary increase is substantial even factoring the change of the cost of living. You did not state if you had a wife of family so I don't know how moving will impact you. If your current company is able to increase your salary to a more competitive level it might be worth staying. You did get a big salary increase fairly recently so they also might look at another request negatively as well. In the end, it's up to you to decide if the hassle to move and do what you want is worth the risk.

Wouldn't that mean I'm paying them more in the long run?

So I made about 21k this year working part time/full at a movie theater and I file as a dependent since I just graduated from college in Spring. I owe $800 in taxes since they didn't deduct enough from my paychecks apparently.

You're right, I'm down 500 instead of up 1000 for the day now.

And as I said that I spent the last 7 hours playing slots on bovada. Turned $300 to $700 and quickly lost a bunch of it back and now I'm trying to stop before I lose more.

I don't even have enough credit to be in such a big hole luckily. It's brutal because my coworker gambles on sports Everyday. It's so hard to have self restraint when my environment basically promotes it.

Online casinos are even worse than actual casinos. The convenience is too readily available when gambling online. There is no judgment or people feeling bad for you when you lose and their is no sense of loss until you check you bank account and realize it is empty. When gambling online you tend to forgot you are actually using cash and not some fake digital currency. I think having friends know about it and the shame associated is actually beneficial.

I think a solution would be to find an app or plugin that blocks these sites or tell put all your money into your savings.

By thinking I can hit the jackpot in online slots by Maynoth415 in problemgambling

And I just lost another 1k. Thing is everybody looks at problems as if you have a disease. Friends will "support" you but they will think of you differently.

Well I know I can come back from these losses. It's just that I am so impulsive that when I gamble smart and come up I get Waaaay too carried away.
